Ok the other night I was crusing around all was good in my 7. I ride up on my friends mustang and get behind him to make a left turn at a light. When the light turned green my friend shot off squealing around the turn me following but as I launched the car and got her spinning a little i took the turn and lost all power to my car and it surged forward and then gained power again and lost it etc.. I tested it out and I could always take slow turns with no problem but if I wanted to go WOT around a turn it would act as stated above. I've been checking connections to see if anything is being shaken loose, but everything checks out. Does anyone have any ideas of what could cause this, and what I could check? Thanks

yeah this happens to me too. i think it's simly having too little gas in the tank. the tank has a fairly flat desing and the pickup for teh pump is on the left (driver's side) so a hard left-hand turn with only a few gallons will starve the fuel pump for a second until the gas sloshes back and gets pick up. as far as i can tell the only solution is to keep a little more gas i the tank.

Change the fuel filter (drivers side of the engine bay, beside bell housing) and pickup screen like andrew lohaus said.

Actually its not the external filter thats causing the problem. What is happening is that there is a internal fuel filter in the gas tank that attaches to the fuel pump at the bottom of the tank. What you need to do is pull your carpet out of the back of your car and open your fuel pump acces door its on the left side in the trunk.Next you need to open the acces cover to the acctual tank pull the pump and float assembly out replace the fuel pump sock. After you do that this is important. you need to clean out your gas tank because after all these years theres alot of crap at the botom of that thing. the good news is that it all colects in one spot in the tank and thats where the pump is in this little oval shaped partision in the tank. You need to get a HAND PUMP to pull all that crap out of the botom. Then you should be good to go race with your buddy again. if you have any questions just pm me

When I had to change the filter that was ON THE PUMP, there wasn't any nasties floating in the tank, just a heavily clogged filter. It was dripping out gas 5 minutes out of the car.

Left turns, full tank half tank empty tank, it doesn't matter. Just order one from the dealership for ~15.

My friend's filter got so bad, that it was collapsing in on itself from the suction.

Also, there is a baffle in the fuel tank which could have come detached. Common problem in DeLoreans (FWIW).

Aaroncake do you have a picture of the baffle you are referring to? I took out my rear fuel pump over the weekend to see if it was clogged or dirty. The small pouch filter was yellow but no dirt or build up on it.

You are right, but chances are if the pick up screen is dirty the one at the firewall is too.

The baffle isnt hard to spot, its in the fuel tank and sits around the fuel pump.

Sorry about that.
I was busy trying to keep dirt out of the tank & wipeing up the fuel that sprayed when I depressurized the lines.

It's like an open can welded to the bottom of the tank.

There is a yellow connecter at the base of the abs pump you can jumper, turn the car to ON but dont start, remove jumper and start. Or just crank the car till it starts.

Hey thats kool and all but can anyone tell me what i can do and the process and everythig i need to buy in one shot for a Convertible. I have a 91 and have the problem. Drifting the turns my car stalls out and then when i get str8 it acts like nothing happens. PLease let me know or pm me the info

The carb cleaner & tooth brush are obvious, but anytime you are pulling fuel hoses, you should replace the clamps with the screw type.
The stress of opening the stock spring clamps leaves them too weak to be reliable.
Also - don't overtorque the pump mounting plate screws.
