Car hard to start and overheats, What could it be?

Can anyone tell me how to check the radiator and clutch fan. My car is hard to start and overheats . i checked the timing and it was ok but when i gave it some gas the timing was advanced. Maybe thats the problem, if so how do set timing just right? Also my clutch has a lil drag but im not sure if it has enoght drag that also may be the problem. What do u think guys???

To check the clutch fan, spin it a lot by hand...10-20 turns or more. Preferably when its warm. A bad fan wil start freewheeling after a little while even though it may have resistance for the first few turns...Checking the radiator is a little trickier. With the car warm (AND NOT RUNNING FOR GODS SAKE!!!!) feel the radiator fins for cool spots. If you find any, your radiator is probably bad. Make sure you are running 50-50 blend antifreeze and water also. And whatever you do NEVER use Stop-Leak on a radiator. It ruins it.

And you could be a little more specific on "hard to start"...Does it crank slowly? Or do you have to crank the **** outta it to get it to fire?
