Car flooded... or is it? I think my fc quit life.
So I went to go to work this morning and tried to start it up; it cranked but wouldn't start. Have almost a full tank of gas, oil good, coolant good... Decided to try and de-flood it even though it had sat for sixteen/seventeen hours. Ran out of time and went to work; thought I'd fix it when I got off. Took off the egi fuse and tried to crank it a few times and then put it back in. It shot out some smoke and rumbled a bit but still nothing. Thought I'd try it one more time since it seemed to want to start.
As I'm cranking it the temp gauge starts to rise and rise while it starts to act like it doesn't want to start after all.....
Haven't read anything like this after searching through the forum.
Does anybody know what I managed to f- up or if the engine is finally dead ?
(I've known it was going to go for awhile now).

hm....
weird.
take the spark plugs out, clean them up, and then crank it over a ton. this will push out anything that is in the engine as far as fuel and oil thats been pushed in.
let it sit over night
put spark plugs back in, and with the egi fuse still out, crank it again
put egi fuse in, and crank.
if its an s5 car, just floor it and it will not inject any fuel. like a built in anti flood procedure.
if its an s4, and its still ownt start, try mashing the gas and then starting it. mine flooded that bad once, and when i got it started, the exhaust was glowing soo red that it looked like it was on full tilt at the dyno. kinda neat, but freaked me out.

There could many issues at play here with some being an easy fix to having to rebuild the engine. How long have you had the car? I am the original owner of my 86 RX7 and I found out many years ago that the car does not fancy to being started for just a very brief time such as starting it cold just so it could be moved in the driveway for example. When my car was just a few years old I would start it up just so I could put it in the garage which took all of ten seconds before going out of town. When I returned after a couple of weeks the car would always be a beast to start. So I learned that if I was going to start the car that it needed to be ran for a while to fend off the flooding issues. Upon startup the car would blow smoke out the exhaust for a while and some would say that the internal seals were damaged but I don't believe this could be true on a 3-4 year old car. Since I learned about the engines idiosyncracies it floods like once every few years if that. Supposedly low engine compression and leaky fuel injectors could be a culprit in the engine flooding as well.

The car has a fuel pump switch so I figure cranking the car with it off would unflood it; tried that and it didn't work.
I might try the spark plug thing if it doesn't start in the next few hours.
I've owned the car for right at 5 months now; it was rebuilt around 50k miles ago but my older brother(previous owner) overheated it because of a freak malfunction with the radiator cap or something. It has a cracked apex seal - I think, the coolant bubbles... a lot with the egi fuse out - I haven't had the compression checked because I'm poor. He had a fuel pump switch put in because he said it kept flooding, but it still was flooding on warm starts since I've owned it. Usually it is fine in the mornings but this is the worst it has ever been.
This might be a clue of to what is wrong, but for a few weeks now it has been hestitant on takeoffs. The engine will act like it isn't getting gas and then it will be fine. I thought my fuel filter might be clogged because I had ran it low a few times(no fuel gauge).
Do you guys think faulty injectors might be causing my current problem and this hesitation problem ?

Lol, Yeah... I figure I drove it a good 7k since I bought and only expected to get around 5,000 miles out of it. I loved fc's before I bought this, but now I don't know how I'm going to ever drive something that isn't rotary powered. :'( I guess I lived my childhood dream though. But.... I'm waiting for someone to tell me that it happened to them and they had their injectors cleaned and everything worked.

Update:
I took out the spark plugs and they were covered in gas; I cleaned them up and cranked it a time or two and a lot of oil, little gas shot out of the holes.
My battery is a bit drained from Anger Cranking and I'm going to wait a bit before I crank it again........
On a sidenote: does anyone know where to buy 460cc injectors at ... for cheap ?

just get a used set and get them cleaned. or take yours out and have them rebuild. Depending on what you mean about the take offs then it could be like the problem i had which turned out to be an injector but that car is getting a turbo swap so its all good.
#11
That is probably the best solution. I only suggested a used set because he can send them out without having to take any of the car apart that way he wont lose any small parts or forget how to reassemble what he has apart

Okay thanks for the help guys.
Since you all seem to know a bit about getting injectors cleaned; etc.
How difficult is it to get to remove the fuel injectors, and on a side note I asked before if I could use the TII fuel injectors instead because I could get the whole set for 80 dollars.
Generally I was told it wouldn't do anything but make it run rich; possibly too rich causing problems...
Do either of you think that I could run the stock TII injectors since I can buy them already cleaned ?

the injectors are EASY to take out.
what have you done to the car or whats been done? is it an s4 or an s5?
get a haynes manual as it details the whole process. youll want new gaskets, and new vac hoses. those break all teh time.

no, dont get t2 injectors. youll run way rich and it will just be ****. it will flood even more.

I've put a cone filter on it, fixed a few vacuum leaks, changed the oil, flushed the coolant system, changed the spark plugs, ran fuel injector cleaner a little while ago. I was slowly doing a 60k tune-up but with min. wage it was taking awhile to get funds.
By gaskets which ones do you mean? I'm only asking because a friend of mine said I had a blown headgasket a few months ago.
I've got a haynes manual already I just thought I'd ask because usually somebody has a good story to tell.

yah
just be careful when doing those. tons of parts will break and things. however, first you must do a compression check.
also an easy way to get the car started is a push start.
leave it in gear, and get a buddy in another car to push yours.

Yeah I figure I'll try and push start it tmrw if I still can't get it started -Left plugs out like you said earlier.
I can't find anyone near me that will check the compression for cheap but my brother said that the rear rotor had low compression.
I'm hoping that my fc will sense that I gave up a sunday of football for work so I can try to make some more money for it.
If it won't push start that means it is completely screwed though, right ?

no
a compression check is easy. take out the bottom spark plugs, hold the gas wide open, and crank the car. the front rotor first, then close it up, and try the rear rotor.
it should give out a nice healthy chug for each face of the rotor. chug chug chug.
if it goes chug.... wir wir wir chug wir wir wir chug wir wir wir chug on any of the rotors, then yes, its blown.
it should sound like a choo choo train.

Oh, that sounds easy enough.
I'll give it a try sometime this week.
Though I'm not for sure I understand fully how to do it.
"the front rotor first, then close it up, and try the rear rotor. "
How do you do this ?
I'm sure that I'm stupid for asking and it is something that should be obvious.

hit on the section that you need to.
By the way..kick your brother in the nuts..he overheated your car,,blew a coolant seal.
.It is not your Injectors.(in my opinion)..and If even if it is or Isn't,Kick him in the nuts anyways!.(teach him not to Fark with your car).haha!

It sounded... alright with the plug out and after f-ing with it all day after I banged the fuel filter a few times it started up for a few seconds and then died.
I think maybe somehow my fuel filter is clogged and it isn't letting it get enough gas to keep running(it acts like it has no gas but I checked the tank is still 1/2 full). But it is getting enough gas to give off a gas smell.. which made me think it was flooded.
Or I might just be going crazy because I don't want to believe that I lost my only friend.

I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED UP; WOOT WOOT!
I hope that it was just a combo of clogged fuel filter and the already low compression...
The engine smoked a **** ton but that is because of the ?oil seals?...
Thoughts ??
It ran fine going down the road so I'm hoping tmrw it will fire right up...
It even idled !!!! Something it struggled to do before. HAHA.
I fcking LOVE rotary engines...... so much stress... here comes the stroke.
