Car Dolly + RX-7

Looking to transport an RX-7 halfway across my state. Will a Car Dolly be acceptable for my purposes, or do I need to get a full on trailer due to damage to drivetrain/etc. that can pop up?

Dolly will be fine. Might be a good idea to disconnect the driveshaft.

As long as it is not auto then you should be good to go. Just make sure your brake lights work on the dolly and you have GOOD straps to secure the front tires. Keep a eye on it. I dollied my FD from MD to NJ(4 hour trip 1 way) and i had no problems.

tow it backwards on the dolly and lock the steering column. works like a charm and you dont have to disconnect the driveshaft.

exactly what i did, for about 350 kms. put the back wheels on the dolly, tired the steering wheel up and went on my way. you can leave the car in gear and put the e-brake on for extra security to, something you cannot do if you are towing with the front wheels off the ground.

Yes, but I disconnect the battery and leave the ignition key turned on. I then bungee the steering wheel straight ahead so it cannot move. If you let the column lock, the wheels will never be exactly straight. The car will sidewind behind the tow vehicle.

Backing the car on is much easier on a lowered car as well. The approach angle on my Vert makes it impossible to drive onto a trailer or a dolly but it will back on with no problem.

Tie that car down to the dolly really well, check it after 1 mile, check it after 5 miles, then check it every 100 miles after that. Frequently the car will need to be re-tensioned after 1 mile, but not after the next check. If the 5 mile check requires a re-tension, then check it again after another 5 miles.

Be careful and good luck.
