car dies when cold, and loses power at 3.5krpm

when engine is at operating temp, the rpm sometimes stay at 3k even 4krpm at idle. I have to rev it hard for it to come back down. So i change the flowmeter (aftermarket). Now, my car is having trouble staying on when engine is cold, it loses power at 3500 and power comes back around 4500-5000rpm. any suggestions?? Also the high idle rpm is still there, didn't really go away.
