Can you guys tell if it is s5 turbo2 engine?

im thinkin s4 if you look closly at what is left of the rats nest plug (looks liek emissions have been removed) you see a grey plug which looks plugged in...i know that for a fact that grey plug is for the s4 twin scroll valve as well
edit...wait it does not looked plugged in but do s5 motors have that many plugs for the rats nest becuase i was sure there was one less on s5

This looks like a j-spec S5 engine, but it's not possible to tell for sure from the pictures. I spy an S5 UIM, S5 intercooler, S5 AFM, S5 alternator, S5 thermostat cover, and S4 MAP sensor. Everything else could be S4 or S5, so who knows.

Look above the T1 spark plug, see if there is a knock sensor. Above the T2 spark plug should be a tapped hole. This will at least tell you if you have a S5 housings. Problem is you can never tell what is inside the engine without cracking it open. All the engine peripherals are S5 and the UIM, LIM and IC are all J-spec.

hard to tell from that angle, the exhaust turbine is where the difference between S4 and S5 turbos comes to be.
All that nastey RTV on the intake and exhaust flanges is a good indicator that someone has been messing with the motor...
I see S5 tps and secondary fuel rail, S4 rotor housings,

That's an S4 turbocharger. The turbine side is smaller in the wastegate region, it has a twin scroll actuator on the manifold & there is no hookup on the compressor for an S5 turbo duty solenoid. Also, judging from the ribs on that transmission case, it might be S4 as well. My S4 TII transmission looks just like that, but my S5 TII transmission has 2x as many ribs. You can check the transmission crossmembers to be sure.

I agree that is is an S4 Turbo and manifold
Another thing to look at is the water temp sending unit. If it is a bullet style connector it is an S4 , which means it is an S4 iron as the hole is smaller, spade style is S5.

Yes, the S5 turbo is superior all around to the S4 turbo with a functional twin scroll system. https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...55&postcount=2
And in your case, you would need an S4 ECU and twin scroll solenoid to control that actuator. An S4 turbo without the twin scroll system has even worse low-end.
