?? can a switch be wired up for wipers???
I know this sounds really ghetto, but i just lost all wiper speeds and cant afford a new wiper switch right now. Is there a way to install a switch to get one speed for emergency purposes. i dont drive it in the rain anyway, just in case i get stuck.
thanks!
thanks!

You should still be able to get wipers on setting 1. If that died out you killed your secondary relay. The primary was made by Omron Auto and if you know how to take out the old one, cut out some of the plastic, and solder very small componants it will cost you about $7 for the new part.
I have seen this writeup somewhere and will search for it. If was not on this forum though.

Failing Wiper Switch (Gary)
First remove the binnacle that contains the switches, unplug the 3 large connectors, and take the unit in to the workbench for a close examination. Remove the wiper switch module by pulling the ***** off and unscrewing the 2 screws that secure the module to the plastic binnacle. Then lever off the white plastic cover over the circuit board (it is secured by tongues into the black plastic case). Then desolder the rows of pins that secure the circuit board to the three switches in the module and remove the circuit board. Now, lever the cover off the relay nearest the wiper switch end (careful, these relays are fragile inside) and examine the open contact, it may appear burnt. Dressed it up with some fine emery paper, gently push the outer fixed contact in a little to close the gap a fraction, and reassemble the whole mess. Viola! Your problem is solved.
The tricky part is identifying the pins of the switches that need to be desoldered to get the PCB out. They are all along the "inside" edge, in two rows clustered in three groups (about 14 contacts in all). One of the wiper switch contacts is particularly difficult to desolder, as there are two pins shoved through the same hole. Use Dri-wick (solderwick) or similar, unless you have desoldering equipment at hand. Use only a hot enough iron to do the job, too much heat will cause the tracks to lift off.
The switch is, of course, also available from MazdaTrix, and can be purchased very cheaply at a junk yard.
Here is one crappy write-up but I think the good one is gone. Especially the one listing the new part number...doh...

I have rebuilt wiper switches available at my webstore starting around $75, or can rebuild yours for around $50 (depending on model) or sell you the stuff to do it yourself.
And farberio's write up sucks for doing it yourself, try this if you want to do it yourself:

You never ever want to re-use the stock relay, if you are repairing the switch, put in a new relay... even with shipping it is less than $15 from my site. And the stock relay is not sealed and is only a 5 amp version.

jason (NZ) hs done it with a couple of switches and posted in the past on how to wire it up. Use the search function found in the upper right hand corner.

Extract the L/W (blue/white) wire from the switch and rig it to a known, good ground. The wipers will work if nothing else is screwed up............like a JDM harness in a USA version, or a plug is disconnected or the fuse is kaput or the wiper motor is toast or {fill in the blank}.

While my wiper switch was away being repaired I installed a switch panel that operated the wipers (low-speed), washer, hazard and roof controls. I used small male spade terminals to plug directly into the plug on the harness. The wiring diagrams have all the colours so you know which wires to connect to. Putting the switch across the blue/white and black wires (or straight to ground like Hailers said) will operate the wipers at low speed but they won't park automatically.
Here's my little panel. Looks ghotto-fabulous but it did the job for a few weeks.

I'm, well, humbled by that arrangement of switches/wires and buttons. I never took a picture of my DEVICE, with a single wire with a spade on one end and an alligator clip on the other to attach to the cigar lighters outer ring. Heck, even the piece of wire was ratty looking.
You could probably sell that outfit (yours) for $22.95 (US of course) plus tax. Maybe add a chrome strip to the edges for the Super Model for an additional $6.50. And of course there would be a *core* charge of $13.50 of which half would be refunded once you get the broken Mazda switch from the owner/buyer. All dependent on how much damaged the old switch was.
But, if one is a little strapped for cash, and who isn't these days, you can buy my wiper device for a mere $15.22 (cash only and in advance, no refunds). I'm serious. Oh, and another $5.50 for handling and shipping charges.
