can i use stock ecu??

i just had the motor rebuilt for my 89 GTUs and the guys that rebuilt it said that i would need a full stand alone system in order for it to be able to run right let alone run at all. they did a fairly large port job on the primary intake ports and a light port job on the 5th and 6th ports. the fuel system hasnt been upgraded yet due to the person buying the car is going to upgrade it all when he gets it. but my main concern is whether or not ill be able to get the car to start and run with the stock ecu only? and if not will an safc be able to help it to run? or is what i was told true about having to go all out and get the stand alone? please help with any info you have as i only have the remainder of thisweek coming up to get this car up and running.

a safc should be fine... many people on the forum run streetports on safc only... you just need to make sure the fuel is upgraded as you said earlier..... also if you must run it on stock ecu and safc then i would advise not getting into it because the n/a pump will prolly be ok for low rpm's but when you get up in the higher rpms it might not be able to flow enough and lean out the motor

btw ive read that n/a fuel pump is only good for up to 200 hp... after that its risky... just so you know
