can i use an 88 eci main relay on a 91?
I just got my first rotory a couple weeks ago. I have been reading on here for a few nights now.
I have a '91 fc N/A, over all immacutate condition, interior is perfect even all the trim. Car has 106,000 miles on it. I would say I got a pretty good deal at $800.
Problem is, it wasn't running right when I bought it. This guy bought it from a small town dealer less than a year ago, and let his son take it out one night. When he brought it home that night, it had little power, the cat was glowing bright red, but it still ran, barley.
I have replaced the alternator, battery, plugs, and started doing continuity checks on injectors, tps, map sensor, pretty much everything trying to figure this thing out. When I put voltage to the two prong conector of the egi main relay to check continuity in the four prong switch, i got nothing. I think that is how it is checked. This guy has a relay to part out of an 88 na and i wondered if it was compatible. any other suggestions would be great. and of course i will be reading much more. hope to see everyone at revolution.
Thanks

You should be able to use it. But, if the car runs, this is not your problem. IF the main relay isnt working you won't get fuel or spark.
What you have sounds like a blown apex seal engine. I strongly suggest you run a compression check. Instructions are on my webpage if you are not sure how.
