Can I still use *this* engine?
Hi Guys,
I've got a problem and need input from someone more knowledgeble than I. The description is kinda long, but I'll try hard not to labor the point. Here's what's happened:
Recently I overheated my 1988 RX and warped a rotor housing. I had a salvage engine sitting on my garage floor and decided that I could do an engine swap and get back on the road.
I have removed the dead engine and was preparing to put on some new parts (per Bruce Turrentine's RX Engine swap video). Thinking about the length of time the replacement engine had been sitting, I got the thought to put a breakover wrench on it and make sure I can turn it over.
Without spark plugs, intake or exhaust manifolds on, I could not turn it beyond about 10 degrees, and now it's stuck solid.
It has been sitting for 3 years on a dolly in a (dry) corner of my garage. I hadn't worried about the storage previously, because the original plan for it was a complete overhaul and then installation in a KitPlane.
Now that I need an engine in my car, I was hoping I could just put it in.
My question is; is there a simple remedy for the situation, or should I get another engine? Would another salvage engine be a good idea, or should I just bite the bullet and complete the planned overhaul of this one?
Thanks for your time reading this, and thanks,000,000 in advance for your input

IT might be possible to atf it and get it turning freeely again, but I recommend highly against it. Who wants to put the bastard in only to find out that it isnt good (the seals wont come unstuck) or have it blow in a week because you're forcing seals that are binding in their slots to move again? You can get *basic* rebuild parts (gasket kit, apex seals, oil seals) and reuse everything else for around $400. This is 100% better than putting in a used engine, but not nearly as expensive as a full rebuild (which is often not necessary anyway).
