so when you guys vent the stock abv, it does indeed run rich between shifts?
Will that hurt the motor at all when it backfires?

There's no other way to solve that problem, other than buying a safc right?

SAFC wont solve richness in between shifts since it goes by rpms, not throt positions. with a safc and a agc vented to atmosphere you will still get a backfire... maybe just not as big. You would be some sort of standalone...

gotcha. for some reason i thought i read something on the safc or safc 2 that it will eliminate the richness between shifts.

i found this on apexi's website for the safc 2

"The Deceleration Air Flow Correction cures erratic idle problems for Hot Wire vehicles equipped with an open atmosphere blow off valve. The S-AFC II can also display an incredible amount of data including: Air Flow Capacity (Hotwire and Flap Type only), Engine RPM, Throttle Position, Pressure Sensor voltage, Karmann Frequency, and Air Flow Meter Correction. "

so it's probably just for idle and not for inbetween shifts? any that's using a safc2 have any input on this?

Thanks SureShot for that pic it explains a little about the shorkel and such, but I still want to know how you would stop compressor surges with the BOV mod if I went to a 3" TID.

Anyone know if it is possible to have a 3" TID and High flow air filter and do the BOV mod and not get compressor surges. If this is true do people get compressor surges if they don't vent to atmosphere and just have a 3" TID and high flow air filter/cone filter?

I need to know!!

Don't worry about compressor surge. With that setup, your biggest problem will be boost creep (assuming you have already upgraded the exhaust). Port the wastegate. Once you get past 10 PSI or so, there have been reports of the stock BOV leaking so you may need to go for something aftermarket.

Of course, this assumes you already have the necessary fuel mods to run more boost...

I'm keeping stock exhaust right now so I don't have to worry about creep, but I plan on upgrading exhaust and porting the wastegate. I have a HKS boost controller and HKS fuel controller/cut defensor. Is this all that's required to reach about 9-10 psi? I didn't think I had to upgrade injectors or fuel pump.

At 10 PSI, you'll want to upgrade the pump.
