Can I beat a non turbo Z?

I'm getting pretty tired of these guys and their little club of 300z's of which most are non turbos 1990+ so before I decide to start serving a platter of whoop *** rotary style I want to know if I have a chance. I remember a friend had a '90 non turbo Z and it was pretty freakin fast. I ran into some of these punks at a gas station and they dissed my car so next time I come back to their hang out site where they talk about how they have a turbo motor at home, I wanna challenge them and win. So what I got going right now won't stand a chance because its a '89 GXL automatic and its slow off the line. The motor is still very strong and in june I'm doing the following work. The auto is coming out and a TII 5 speed is going in along with a light steel flywheel. The big heavy steel hood is coming off and being swapped with a much lighter TII hood. The engine is being tuned and balanced along with some pretty good gear and motor oil along with some minor cheap stuff like 8mm wires and a cold air intake. I can out pace most of these punks on the freeway and on roll ons but I want to take them on the track also. Will this be enough or will I have to port the motor. Here in SLC there are tons of ********* and everyday is full of them. So can I stick it to a non turbo Z?

you dont have a chance with that auto. pull your motor port it (i like a nice big j-port with supporting mods) and put that tII trans in and then go whoop *** rotary style

When I had my 87 RX-7 N/A it had a air filter, exhaust and a 5 spd. The 1990 300zx N/A murdered me with all its 3400 LB 222 HP glory. murdered as in he pulled big time as sonn as we started. But now with my TII-vert I kill him everytime.

so your gonna need some hardcore mods and/or a little shot of Nitrous to beat them.

Those things are fricken slow.
Even with a non-turbo FC with typical upgrades, you should beat him.
Why?
Cause those things are HEAVY.

With a catback and a k&n filter my friends 90 n/a 5 speed ran 14.7@93 all night long. The usual bolt on FC has trouble breaking into the 14's.

With some mods (you will need more because you have an AT) it's definately possible to beat one. Depends on whether or not he's modded...and what mods he and you have. But most likely it's prolly not in super great condition so you have a much better chance. But they are no slouch at all (my 3rd fav car of all time...N/A of course) I really love 'em.

Did someone mention a drag race?
It sounded like the original poster was doing some street racing to me?

14's is pretty fast for a N/A Z32.
I know a guy who was doing high 16's.  Granted it was an auto, but I heard the turbo Z32 was faster in auto anyways.
At the drag strip, there's tires and a typically sticky launch box.
On the street, it's a little different.

Both car's in question run IRS and are RWD, so I don't think there will be much of a difference in the outcome of the race whether it's at the strip or on the street. AWD cars have a huge advantage on the street.

I don't have much experience with the z32 or any z series beyond a couple of friends cars that I'm messed around with. Regardless, a 5 speed n/a z32 should be a low 15 second car.

The bottom line is that bench racing sucks anyway. I hate these kind of posts, they are a waste of bandwidth. Just race and find out.

They are also no "proper" in this section, and I put money it'll be moved soon.

Our track in Hawaii sucks, and I've never seen an NA Z32 crack 14's.
The guy I know who has one went a fastest mid-13's, but was squeezing NOS through his auto-trans NA.  It was a pretty big shot if I remember correctly, around 100.

The reason for this post is it doesn't seem that anyone has any confidence in N/A RX-7's. The auto will be out soon and a TII trans will replace it. It is a sure thing. The car will be lightly modded and properly tuned. The main thing going for this car is it has an awesome S5 motor in it despite being shackled to an automatic can still bring pain. Just not off the line. Thats were the manual comes in. I've also driven 300z's and they are powerful in N/A form but most are beaten up. I listened to a kid brag about his having 300+ hp being an auto and not a turbo. I kicked his *** in my '81 GSL that was bone stock. I'm not afraid. Its just no one ever seems to think these N/A 7's aren't any fast.
