Can the 2nd gen be 2000lbs?
I just got my car weighted and it came out 2,187 lbs..
I only have a stock seat and the 98% of the dash and all the sound deadener.
What could be removed to get to 2000 lbs?
Maybe a lite weight seat and dash removed and the sound material? I think this is about 80 lbs maybe at the most.. any comments..

I'm not familiar with SE's, but if they have this stuff, you can remove it...
- air pump
- power steering pump
- windshield washer pump/container/lines
- catalytic convertors
- rear wiper motor and wiper

take out the heater core and the fan motor and all the heat ducts. take out the logicon. AWR racing has fibergalss body parts for fc's. i have heard that a non tilt sterring column is way lighter. yes remove the tar from the floor, take the sunroof motor out, switch to manual windows to eliminate some more motors.

You could take out the steel frame in the front bumper but that would be very bad if you get into a wreck...that is over 100 pounds the door frames are 80 pounds total for both sides the hatch glass is very heavy there are companies that make light weight replacements and you forgot to say how much gas you had or how much you weigh

The light weight option came with no extras... manual everything..lite weight hood and LSD. 14" wheels and smaller brakes..often refered to as the cheap model.
The car weighted in with full tank of gas and passenger seat, seatbelt, which is removeable.
I weight 210 lbs, but I wasn't on the scale.

The front bumper support is plastic or the front bumper cover? I would think it would be metal, but I've never taken a look at it.

front bumper covers are plastic, and the front bumper is plastic too....
Shows that none of you have actually been inside one of these front ends. every last ******* second gen on this planet has a plastic front crash support bumper. the framework that holds it off the radiator support is metal. everything in front of the headlights is plastic.
Why do you guys even try and say bullshit on here? We'll call the bluff!

Jimmy is right. The only steel in the front of the car holds the radiator and oil cooler in place. The fiber impact bars weigh 12# with the two mounting horns(steel) weigh 5# each. Do that to the front and rear and you have saved 44#. Pretty good savings but not smart on a street driven car. They serve a purpose in the event of a collison.
Light weight model?

Yes.. it can.. but are you willing to fork out the cash to do so? if so.. here's what you can do. Custom carbon fiber hood and fender's fiberglass front bumber, take out the carpet and all the sound dampening stuff remove the passenger side seat, the door panels , and most of the dash.

Yeah whats up people...I have a scale. I weight lots of stuff. the tire and rim combo froma GXL 89 15 inch is around 38-40lbs. My enkie rse 16 are 40lb about the same as stock but a couple heavier.
PLASTIC??? I have taken mine out. Its not my daily driver but they are Fiberglass and weigh alot for a car thats not driven daily. So I took them out and saved around 44lbs.
The sunroof with the motor , bracket and actual top piece was a total of 25lbs. But thiers a hole in my hood so I will need to put light plastic in thier.
The PW are just as heavy as the MW or within 2lbs of eachother.
I took out the Auto Seat Belts and saved 12lbs total both sides Hood is around 50lb plus or minus 2 and around 22-25 for aluminum. The seat is around 30lbs mabey a bit more for the driver side...Rear hatch is 50lb.
The carpet wasnt much. Mabey around 10lb total without the sound deadening goop...

Costs money (but less than forged rims), but do you currently have the arcrylic hatch and side windows? I bet that is 30-40lbs saved!
Yeah, I had the lightweight base too. Mine was only down to 2400lbs, but full interior- very minor weight reduction.
If you get a single muffler system they can be quite light (SS or titanium so the pipe can be thin). I have a heavy *** stock y-pipe and mufflers in my garage now...
If you just go through and remove every little bracket and bolt that is not needed it is amazing to see it add up.

boost on the way(GTU II)
hey guys !
GLHS has his car just about stripped to hell. 2000 LBS.
is light as hell. well everything u can think of that comes right off the top of ur head about lightening the car... well he's done it...
only the dash and seat inside the car.. if n e thing we got to think of some smart ingeneous round about ways on how to lose some weight. ie. the cutting of the door braces..
like i have said before i have heard of some people drilling big holes in the metal frame of the dash and losing some weight off of that.try that Levi..
