CAI Question

I've been debating on the best to get cold air to the filter and I've been considering doing either the "true CAI" or building a box. I'm leaning towards the "true CAI."

The problem is how everyone gripes about "OMG YOUR GONNA GET WATER IN YOUR ENGINE!!!"

Why not use one of these? I think it would be good to use it right in front of the air sensor.

Do they actually work or what?

My new K&N is finally in the mail so I'm ready to get started on the CAI project.

They work, but the problem is putting those on decreases hp by around 2hp, which brings the hp gain back down to a short ram setup.

Ah. So it's prolly something only to be done if you are in a rainy area or just during the rainy season. Anyone have this in their car?

I still doubt you'd suck any water in. Many companies like aem and injen route them to the same places. I would just use a heat shield between the filter and the possible water.

If you do a cold air intake, please buy this.

On Wednesday we had a Tornado and I was following driving behind a friend to his house because he has a basement. There was a flash flood and all the sudden water was up to my windshield. The next thing I know my Jetta's engine waterlocked. I got it started again the next day but it threw a couple rods when I tried to drive it. This is all because I had a cold air intake. My buddy's Saturn didn't even hesitate through all the water.

I would think water up to your windshield could hydrolock any car, CAI or not. I've had a CAI on a couple of my cars in the past, heavy rain, big puddles, with no problems. If you stay out of flood water its probably fairly safe. I suppose you would also have to factor in ride height, the distance of the filter to the ground, etc.

Remember, you have to be in enough water to submerge the filter, so just use your judgement based on that.

*Actually, wait a second, I thought you couldn't hydrolock a rotary anyway? Thats how people use the "water trick" to steam clean the internals.

I'm kinda worried about thise cuz a friend's Integra he bought came with a blown engine because it got hydrolocked because of his CAI.

I think I'm gonna pick it up when the winter gets closer just to be safe. Hell, I might just switch to a short ram just to be safe.

Thanks!
