A/C system (?)

1987 (S4) N/A.

So in about march I noticed that my K&N filter had chafed its way through the R12 A/C line that is right below it. It was leaking out chunky white sauce, im assuming R12. Prior to this my A/C system worked great, blew cold air, it was awesome.

Fast foward to today, its 105F here in Louisiana and im dying.
I patched up the line with some exhaust repair tin and line clamps.
The system should be about empty as all the refrigerant leaked out that line.

I am not very familiar with the A/C system so bear with me:
Now when I push the button on my Logicon for A/C, this should kick on the compressor.
Now obviously the outer ring of the pulley that the belt is wrapped around should always spin right (Yes.)? The front inside part of that pulley which im assuming is the clutch should spin too when the compressor kicks on right?
My inner "clutchy" looking part doesnt when I push the button for A/C.
Im wondering if my compressor could have burnt up at some point when I may have accidentally left the A/C button depressed without any R-12 in the system?
Or is there a pressure sensor that wont allow the compressor to kick on when there is no/low pressure R-12 in the system?
Or is my compressor actually on and im just retarded?
My voltage guage in the cluster doesnt move when I turn on the A/C nor does the idle of the car. No noise from the A/C vents, nothing really.

So any suggestions? I would really like to repair this to the point where all I need to do is go get it filled w/ R-12 somewhere. I dont want 'professionals' replacing my compressor or whatnot part when I can do that for cheap with a used compressor.

There is a PRESSURE switch in the system. The switch is MADE when there is pressure in the system and that circuit goes to the A/C clutch to pull it in.

IF the pressrue is LOW, the switch is not MADE and the circuit is OPEN and therefore the clutch does not pull in.

Find the A/C drier located in front of the radiator. It is a cylinder and should have a two blade switch on that cylinder or on one of the lines to it. Pull the plug off and put a piece of wire b/t the two sockets on that PLUG and then go turn the A/C on. The clutch should pull in. IF it does, immediatley turn off the A/C because there is no lubricant/fluid in the system.

Your patch will never work. Get a new line.
