The engine looks good. i think it was a good deal. The turbo has cracks on the exhaust manifold but I have a good turbo. the harness was cut and no ECU.

Is that rust in the coolant channels? All in all doesn't look so bad though. When I rebuilt my N/A after the water seals failed on me at 36k It looked just like that.

Yeah it's rust. Once I clean it out it should be good.

How deep? Surface rust or deep to the point that the Iron's / housings need replacement?

Well I put it back together this weekend and it's in the car. Just need to hook up the engine harness, belts, fluids and fire it up next weekend.
