jdm engines are notorious for being fubar upon arrival ..why do u want a jdm for anyways whats wrong with getting a dependable egine from this forum where the seller will ahve knowledge about it.??? to save money? the savings will be negligabel when u start replacing ahrd componets on the jdm engine

In my opinion all JDM engine places are the same. Reason being all the motors are going to be bagged on, there is no guarantee of a good solid running motor. I think it was 95% of the JDM engines have to be rebuilt. They have either been sitting for a couple years, which is a like a death threat, or just came out of a race car that got bagged on.
Jdm motors usually run around $1k. Buy a master rebuild kit $1k. Get a ROTARY mechanic to rebuild it for you so you know its done right $600 ish? And there you go a good solid running motor. Most cases you will need rotors or housings which run about $500 brand new a pop, so if you were to replace all rotors and housings your looking at $2k. So it does get more expensive.

Just check the compression, how the radiator hoses looks (rust, cracked, clean), oil color and viscosity, read the spark plugs (detonation, cracked ceramic, too much oil, etc), external engine look (greasy, rusted, etc.) Is not a guarante that the engine would be perfect, but is a very reliable guide to detect any posible engine problem.

I am buying it from online vendors. I can't check all those things. As long as it's in decent condition and nothing is cracked.
Just wanted know if anyone had any experience with a JDM and where did they buy it from.

95% of jdm motors need rebuilds? and wtf are you getting these statistics from?
im pretty sure if 95% of them needed rebuilds alot of the places that have a warranty would go out of business.
i have a jdm motor and it purs, i also know people that have them and they run fine, i guess its a roll of the dice, just look for a warranty

Also it does definitely have 40k miles worth of wear on it. And probably could use a rebuild just because it has sat. But I definitely think I can get 30-60k more miles out of the thing before the seals blow (just a guess). My old N/A engine sat for 10 years (started 1-2 times a year, Ran for 10 minutes, and shut off) and I got 30K out of the engine before the coolant seals completely failed.
So my opinion is these engines will usually start up just fine as long as they were stored correctly (Tiger seems to know what they are doing in that respect). You will need to rebuild them at some point just because they sat for awhile but all in all if you need to get your car moving and don't have the money to rebuild it right away a JDM engine is a decent way to go. It just may need to be rebuilt sooner than later.

Cool, thanks guys.
I am gonna get it from Tiger.
Like I said I am gonna rebuild it before I put it in my car. These engines have sat for years so I figure rebuild it now before I have to rebuild it later.
I will post pictures of the teardown.

That's why I am gonna rebuild it before I put it in. My brothers got JDM engines a couple years ago for a 94 sentra and a 92 2000nx. They are both still running strong. So I will see what happens

I got a 87 turbo for $890.00 shipping was $168.00 to VA.
I am opening the block right now. So far it looks good but this engine was burning a lot of oil.
Will get pictures.

out of all my friends with jdm engines only 2 came out bad. (they were 2 sr20det's) DIfinately not 95% in my persenal experience.
I have not seen people order rotaries but i highly doubt 95% or bad engines.
