Buying a '90 TurboII
Hey guys im looking into buying a turbo rx-7, needs lots of work but i havent own an rx-7 since 2007, what are the bad spots to check before buying ?
car has emission block off plates and idles a bit rough.
does the ecu reset and make it run weird on idle if the battery is completly dead for a long time ?
i dont know how to post pics since imageshack.us isnt working like bofore
thanks

check the back story on the car. how many miles/etc. why does he say it's running rough? what fuel/ecu setup does he have? car still have CEL if it's USDM?(guessing not since saw you're in canada) try to pull codes if possible. I know removed emissions would come up, but curious what else pops up. Like ECU not seeing an injector
Would be nice if you can take off intake pipe leading to turbo and pipe after turbo and check for oil to see if turbo is leaking oil into intake track. taking off intake pipe leading to turbo would just make sure it's not a ripped pcv valve leaking oil before the turbo.
Compression test it if he lets you, or at least crank with spark plugs out, or at least drive the thing and make sure it's fine in boost.
Check for smoke upon cold start. I always like buying cars that people haven't cleaned anything before I show up and I always like cold starting them to check for possible bad coolant temperature sensors, or seals going bad.
