Buying an 89

Hey - first post here. My friend is having a bit of a post-midlife crisis situation where he's selling his 1989 RX7 Turbo II for $6000. I kid you not when I say it has 61K on it and has only been in the rain 10 times. It used to be owned by a guy that died soon after getting it, and his wife kept it stored - then my friend got it. It's had all the basics redone on it - brakes, tires, belts, hoses, etc. So is $6K a good deal on this? I havn't really seen enough on them to know what's going on, and the only reference I have is the Kelly Blue Book that says between $3200 and $5000. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thought I'd reply to your first post. I don't think 6G's is an unreasonable price for the car, as long as it's in the condition you state. They're hard to find in excellent condition. Don't be overwhelmed by the appearance, and make certain no problems with the drivetrain. I know I'd ask more than that for mine, but that doesn't mean anyone would buy it.

Well the story behind the car is that the guy bought it new and basically kept it stored as his weekend sports car. I did some work on it at the stereo shop I was working at. He died after having it for 10 years and his wife just kept it stored. My boss from the stereo shop saw that the lady finally put it up for sale, bought it for 6000 and redid the brakes and hoses and all that. Now he's in a post-midlife-crisis mode because he wants an SUV to put his kids in. Hence, passing it on to me for 6000. It is in wonderful condition, I've checked out the "what to look for" page that's in the faq and everything checked out ok. Thanks for the input though. And an easy way into my first post.

I would buy it for 6k, my friend got a better deal he found a 89TII with 42k original miles and ended up paying 4,200. but if i was you I would buy it. try to get it for 5200 - 5500 it would be a steal.

6000US is pushing it, even in that condition, but the chances of finding one in decent shape in a short period of time may warrant paying the price.
