Burning Oil

Ok first here is a little background.

I installed and new engine almost a year ago now. I have an '86 n/a with a 13B from an '85 GSL-SE. This engine is a rebuild from Mazda.

When I start my car it burns oil like crazy until it's warm and then I don't even get a puff. Mazda won't waranty the engine because it burns a litre of oil aprox. every 5 000km and they said it has to burn 1 litre under 1 500km for waranty.

About the cloud at startup, is this normal for the older 13B's? The guy I had install the engine also put in some new oil injectors from a GSL-SE, I don't remember everything that he explain to me but aparently they are a little different and better.

Anyone have any ideas why it burns a lot of oil at startup and not at any other time? Could it be a bad seal?

Bad seal is my guess. The oil is seeping into the engine while it sits, pooling, which gets burnt off right away on startup.
The engine will be leaking oil when you drive it too, but just not as fast so the smoke will not be noticable.
Soon time for a rebuild.... 20W50 will help until then.

What's wrong with using 1 quart of oil in 5K? That sounds about right to me!
