bumper foam

how much of a difference does this foam actually make? cuz im doin some stuff to my rear bump and am tempted to leave it off...just the foam im keeping the support that bolts on behind the foam...it seems to me the foam is just for small parking lot fender bender type acidents.

well if your bumper gets hit without it, then it will just crush in and break.

Maybe if your bumper has it tho it will have structural integrity and the hull won't be breached.

LOL

lol@hull wont be breached...so basically the foam is just to help the bumper itself keep its shape but the bolted in bumper support is what actually does the work if i got rear ended?

The foam is there primarily to keep the effects of the sun on the bumper cover to a minimum... Meaning to keep it from warping... If weight is an issue I always remove the bumper foam, support, brackets, everything...

[disclaimer]Not that I condone or recommend it...[/disclaimer]

just a comment dun mean to create an argument but none of the canadian models came with them well at least non that i have taken apart or owned. They didn't come with the foam in the back but they did in the front. I have checked out some places that can get me aftermarket rebars for the rear and they ask me if i have a us or canadian model. Anyways my point is i dun have foam in the back of my car neither do many other canadian rx-7's so driving without wouldn't be much of a problem as far as i c.

The foam is there to meet the government regulations of 5MPH (or is that 2MPH?) capable bumpers. If you remove it, there is nothing to support the bumper and it will totally crush and crack in a slight collision.

The white foam weighs nothing. The big black support bracket is the bumper and plays a major role in any collision.

Removing either is a matter of safety.

mmmmm, its gonna break/crack in an accident regardless, its bumper, thats its job. the foam is there to ge broken as well.......removing it will just magnify the effects and make the car less safe.

No, they have a combination rebar/absorber in the rear. It meets national rule standards for impact absorbtion without the use of a sperate FOAM ABSORBER which is what its called.

Its there for your protection on a street car, just like the re-bar (duh!!!), door beams and all the other things people see to frivilously remove from their stret car in the hopes of shaving .09 seconds from their e.t.

hope that clears it up.
