Building a quiet true dual setup.

First off I have searched alot and found some usefull information, but I'm looking for a bit more.

I got a hold of a racing beat road race headers for my FC with strait pipes all the way too the mufflers, I heard them when they were on a car with stock mufflers and they were WAY to loud for my taste. Is there a way to quiet true duals down to near stock exhuast system while still being free flowing?

I know if I use presilncers it will quiet things down a bit, but I don't really have the fundings to go out and buy two presilncers which cost about $200 each.

So after thinking it threw I have come up with this set up.. Buying 4 of these suckers http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2466422793
and using them as presilncers.. I will chop off that big 4" outlet so I get 2.5 inlet and out let. Then weld them in series and put then in the mid pipe. Then for last mufflers I will go with something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2465480869 for the end.. If I can come up with a bit more money by the end of the month I might go with racing beat for rear mufflers.

So a total of 6 mufflers will go into this set up, do you think that would be enough to keep my S5 N/A quiet?

Any suggestions or comments welcomed.

Good luck making it quiet. I fabbed up a header and true dual for my beater and like you said it was way too loud with the stock mufflers, so I removed the stockers and replaced them with two thrush turbo mufflers and two 31" glasspacks, still too loud. I am currently running the same glasspacksand turbo mufflers along with a homemade set of mufflers I designed that are kind of a cross between flowmasters and spin techs, still too loud.

BTW, the glasspacks are surviving well, while I was installing the current set-up I cut one in half to check on the fiberglass packing, it showed very little deterioration(sp?). So I welded it back together and put it back on.

im pretty sure that there is no other way to reduce sound since you have it straight piped, no cat, and no bends. also, the prescilencers cut back the hp that a straight pipe blesses you with. is the exhaust really that loud? if i were you i would stick with it for a while. but, i live in cali to and its a bitch because of the cops and stuff. my friend got pulled over for exhaust, and then the ticket turn into a bunch of other stuff. but only if its a daily driver.

And how loud is it?

I'm leaning more towards racing beat rear mufflers since I keep hearing they are quiet.

Well if you can think of something better then using four mufflers as presilencers I would like to hear it.

why has no one said anything about the heat issue??

Putting a muffler further upstream on your exhaust wil subject it to much higher heat than it was designed for. Many aftermarket parts that are fine on other cars will fall to **** on ours. Do you REALLY want to spend all the $$ to buy them, then weld them, only to have the insides fall out anyway??

All I can think of is to say that everything has a price. True duals are going to be louder. if you want a quieter exhaust, you may have to look elsewhere besides the duals...

The mufflers I chose for presilncers are steel whole packed not fiber, so it should hold up too the temp just fine.

I already got a hold of a road race header.. and I think a true dual will yelled more preformance gains.

I'm pretty sure some one has a true dual set up that is fairly quiet, I'm curous what they did and what they used.

will those giant cans fit under the center of the car? there isn't alot of clearance there. probably why the presilencers are so slender, and for silencers people use slender low profile mufflers. you might end up dragging those on the ground.

hehe yea, I was noticed that.. but I just posted it up to give an idea.. I'm looking at dynomax for presincer.. but not sure if they will blow the packing since its fiber packed.. but they do have a life time warranty.. Right now just getting ideas, won't be doing this till the end of the month.

You have headers? Or you just have the 3" pipe coming from exhuast manifold?

And how loud would you say you car? Louder then most civics?

I would hope it is louder than most civics. Heh. You may have to deal with the loudness. My 88 is louder than my truck which idles at 1400rpm. Loudness is the cool part though.

Do cops in California actually pull you over if you have no cat converter, and you are going the speed limit?

Cops will pull you over just about anything out here, Your exhuast is to loud.. the look under the hood and under the car.. they see no cat... your fucked..

That why I want it quiet... so car looks stock and sounds stock.

I like my car tone right now.. Gutted precat with high flow cat. two stock mufflers, and I don't want it much louder then that.

i have heard of FD guys who use the borla xr1 mufflers as "resonating midpipes" or basically as silencers in their exhaust. they can be found in sizes that will fit the space under the car and seem to quiet the cars down a bit. i don't know if many FC guys use them or not, but i haven't heard much about them. i myself have considered ordering one up and then having it flanged to fit where my racing beat presilencer is to quiet my car down more. the borla xr1's are kinda spendy though, like 150ish each i think.

I found these, I think they might the job. I'm think there Stealwhoul(sp?) packed. if anyone knows what there packed with or has experiencing using them let me know how they sounded and quiet things down. I think #10435 will do the job nicely.

Also debating on going with 2.5" or 2.25"

I think I'm the guy that $150 FC was talking about. In the video, it showed what the car sounded like at idle from behind and stuff. Later vids showed what the car sounded like doing a couple runs upto 8.5k rpms.

If you want a quality exhaust that makes good power, and is quiet....the RB pre-silencer is the way to go. Not to mention, its location does play a factor in noise level. I did'nt like the location of the MT, truel duel exhaust, as I thought the pre-silencers where to far away from the motor. CJ
