bridge porting opinions

im torn between getting a used NA replacement motor, or suck it up, buy the rebuild kit, rebuild video, and have my housings ported.

ive heard that street porting on a 6port isnt really worth it, but what about bridge porting? some ppl seem to say its decently streetable, and i dont need a daily driver.

are 6 port 13B's bridge portable? will i need something other then the stock intake to take advantage? and ecu upgrade?

my motor didnt break any seals off, it just suffered from the coolant oring failure. what are my odds that ill need new housings?

maybe ill really suck it up and save for an atkinks/camden supercharger and bridgeport.. so whats the general concensus?

bridge porting is huge money. street porting does make a difference. around 30% power. if you do street port it and add a full exhaust and intake you would be up around 200hp. but you would be running low in fueling.

hmph.

street port the 6port? the almighty MazdaTrix FAQ looks down upon that. i was just thinking, for the $ im considering, i could buy a used T2. but, Atkin's supercharger looks pretty cool, and i dont hafta worry about ECU stuff, that gets pricey. man, maybe ill wait till i have some more money before i make a decision

rebuild

I am by no means qualified to answer your question on porting. All I can say is what I have learned from others. The general consensus is porting is of little value on 6 port engines. Of course you could always utilize turbo rotor housings and end housings. The rebuild video you are considering explains the benefits on doing this. The results are as good as any porting job on a 6 port, without the hassle or worry of getting into the water jacket. The video is a worthwhile investment even if you never go into your engine. It is well made and very informative.

Look for the video on a web site owned by Tracy Crook. The web site is called Real World Solutions. It goes for 30 bucks or so. Worth every cent.

The video also explains the propensity for these engines to have coolant o ring failures, and what to look for when rebuilding to avoid leakage problems with your new engine. It seems the walls of the rotor housings are very thin when it comes to supporting the o ring and minor corrosion will cause big problems very quickly. This makes it imperative to run fresh high quality anti-freeze/coolant mixture. This mixture will inhibit corrosion.

i ported my 6 port motor and holy s#!t it would keep pulling hard all the way till the rpm cut at 7600 before i installed the dual outlet header it made little difference but when i got rid of the stock exhaust manifold it made the biggest power increase of any other mods even withe six ports wired open you could feel the increase in power and torque yes i said torque over 3000 the car would redline fourth gear without problem and pull to 7000 in fifth mazdatrix said not to do it unless the engine was already going to be apart and they are right but if you are in a rebuild it is not hard to do your self and only take about two hours on the intake i personally did not do the exhaust but you can always do the turbo rotor housings just my longf winded .02
