brake rotors
ok.. i need brake rotors but there are so many different brands out there and types (slotted, drilled, normal)
i mostly use my car for dailey driving and auto cross once and awhile..
what brake rotors should i get for a good price?
must be 5 lug and post up the link!
looking into getting some better brake pads as well.

powerslot rotors with ebc green stuff is what im rockin' good for daily driving great for autox.
drilled and slotted are useless unless your going to the track or just like the looks.
200 for front and rear rotors... pads about 120 for both front and rear

What's wrong with the stock rotors, available at any auto parts store? I think drilled and slotted rotors have been thoroughly debunked at this point. There seems to only be a marginal improvement under specific circumstances.
Hawk HPS pads are great pads for daily driving with some track time. I'm quite happy with mine. Once they get a bit of temperature in them they grip quite well, though with a slight squeak.

Blanks are the way to go, unless you feel the need for some extra bling. The drilled rotors will look pretty up to the point that they start to crack around the holes. And for pads, I've been happy with Raybestos ceramic pads. They're silent, leave no dust and stop well. Probably not as well as an aggressive track-oriented pad, but they're perfect for daily use.
Also, you can use some high temp paint on a portion of the steel blanks to prevent the rusty rotor look. Just don't paint the area the pad contacts.

my stock rotors are worn out and a little warped.
saw some good deals on ebay for drilled and slotted rotors.. if im getting new brakes might as well up grade to something that looks a little better.. as well as performes better...

I have endless super street pads on mine and they are definitely as advertised; great street performance, barely any dust and no squeak. Not the cheapest though. I definitely wouldn't go drilled. I wonder about dimpled though? Blanks are probably the safest bet, while ebay is definitely not the safest bet.

I like the Brembo replacement rotors (blanks). Tire Rack sells them for about $50 each. I would never stake my life on a no-name Ebay product.
Pretty much any pad is fine for street/autocross. Over the years I have used OEM pads, Axxis Metal Masters, Hawk HPS, Hawk HP+, EBC Greenstuff, and some type of Porterfield ceramic material of which I forget the name, and everything worked just fine although some dusted more than others.

imho, slotted and drilled rotors are just for looks and dont really have functionality. it will increase your stopping distance significantly, learned this from experience.
you can go with solid vented rotors which work pretty damn well for daily and alright for autox but its prone to alot of warpage in the short run if you do autox often.
drilled rotors would be the way to go, it might increase your stopping distance and are prone to cracking, but usually dont warp as fast.
edit: reason i have slotted is because the greenstuff pads tend to build up dust alot and you can really feel them when they build up while cruising in the mountains.

After reading this thread I'm going to order 4 Brembo vented rotors from Tirerack and Hawk HPS pads. Right now I have non-vented rear rotors and I need a new rear left caliper - my question that's keeping me from ordering anything is if I ordered them, would 26-99ZR-FBY5 and 26-98ZR-FBY5 from http://mazdatrix.com/j-2brake.htm work with that rotor? Also should I order a new caliper for the right side as well (always replace brake parts in pairs)?
I know that those rebuilt calipers say for vented rotors (which is what I am ordering), I just want to make sure I'm ordering the right stuff before I drop a good chunk of my last paycheck.

i'm interested trying either the hawk street pads or the raybestos ceramic when the oems are soon removed.
my car still has the oem pads and plenty of thickness, so i think the stock are a solid replacement too.
the issue not mentioned in any of the these threads is asbestos.
the originals contain asbestos and so does one version of the oem replacements.
many aftermarket pads still use asbestos.
looking at info online, the hawks and ceramic raybestos appear to be asbestos free.
it's also important to remember that all of the crud on the surrounding bits contains asbestos thrown from the pads.
don't used compressed air for clean up!
and follow the proper wet/clean up processes and toss all of the rags, consider a mask too.
while the risks are much greater for smokers, getting this stuff in your lungs (intentionally) is not wise for anyone.

They must be taking a lot of orders to have to push them back to October. I ordered mine a few days ago and they said they'd be shipped in a few weeks (July 27th or 28th I think).
And it's just the rear rotors that are on back order.

I would say yes, it should. I don't think there's anything else that would need changing, if you swap in vented rotors and the calipers they were originally used with. You might dig up some threads on that kind of conversion to confirm it.
