Brake pads & rotors..what do 'y'all use?

Seems I have to replace brakes all around on my vert.
I know OEM may be best, but what aftermarket pads and rotors have you guys had good luck with? I know of hawk pads, but are all rotors pretty much the same?
Note: I HATE squeaky brakes!! Nothing gets my boxers in a bunch worse, except maybe leaky exhaust manifolds... *Checking to see if Kevin is out there*
Thanks for any advise!

If you run an aggressive brake pad with the stock rotors, you can expect your rotors to wear or warp much faster than with stock pads.

Forgot to mention, just got a TII upgrade (Thanks to Kev!), but I'm an old fart and more often than not just cruising on the street, no abuse planned. So, streetable stuff is what I'm mainly looking for. Not really interested in slotted/slashed'drilled etc. Anyone use the autozone/advance auto rotors/pads?

Did I mention that I'm also CHEAP?

pads are pretty cheap through mazdacomp (if you're a member) and the rotors set me back 200 for the set, really not that bad.

Dude just call up victoria british or check their websight. I paid 30 bucks for front pads and i know thier rotors are very affordable. They use mostly OEM products so if you want to keep streetable performance while staying on a budget check them out.

I think you have to turn in atleast two race times (autocross) to be a part of their team. A guy I know whom I've ridden with at an autocross said the only reason he raced was so he could stay in Mazdacomp and get his discount.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe all mere vented rotors (which are the way to go) are effectively the same.

I use powerslot rotors and mintex pads. stop on a dime and never fade. 15k on brakes and still look brand new.

Squeaky brakes usually come from bad/improper installation of the pads. If the pads arent stuck against the calipers they will move around and squeak during braking. What you should really do is get this spray junk (cant remember the exact name) that you spray on the back of the pads (not the side that touches the rotor) when installing them. It's this sticky junk that helps hold the pad to the caliper and hopefully eliminating the chance of squeaky brakes.

I'm not trying to flame, but 99.9%+ of the people on this forum have never used their car in a manner that will fade the stock brakes (assuming fluid and pads maintained). I'm mentioning it because I think it's a common misconception.

It's called anti-squeal compound, and comes in a convenient packet. You smear it on just like jam on toast. Any decent salesman at the auto parts store should ask if you need any, so he can sell you some. Get some. But a little bit goes a LONG way.. I did four cars with a silver-dollar sized packet.

I rebuilt all off my calipers, installed SS brake lines, turned the stock rotors, and installed HP+ Hawk pads.

I like them so far and it brakes rather well. Need to really get out there and test it though.

Maybe my last pads sucked because after five minutes of VERY hard driving I had massive pedal fade and smoke rolling out from my front wheels.

So yeah. My new stuff dosen't fade that easy.

me too...I am shopping for some rotors and pads now. Let us know

BUT.....I just want blank rotors...no slots (squishy sounds), and no x-drill (no cracks). So if you want the same thing...let me know and I will also see if we can get a group deal too...

I guess I am just a boring kind of a guy..
