Master - when installing the new master, its easier if you connect the lines first, then tighten the nuts. If you do it in reverse, its a pain in the **** to get the lines started.

yep, master cylinder.
Don't forget to bench bleed the MC. On the bench out of the car or in the car if you forgot, but the latter can be messy if you have two left hands. The new MC should come with rubber lines and plugs and instructions on how to bench bleed.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Chech the inside of your car for brake fuild as well.
