brake caliper o-rings

Can I just use the standard (oil, methinks) o-rings I get in pep-boys to replace the old o-rings inside the brake calipers (brake fluid, and REAL high pressure)?

Thats a big negative. The caliper piston o-ring needs to be a Mazda part or at least a specific aftermarket part for brakes if its even available. I don't think brake rebuild kits are to expensive. If you use a standard o-ring you risk a big chance of it leaking. If its leaking that means your brakes are not going to work good if any at all.

the brake caliper o-rings are the square cut type not round. if you found the correct size and thickness and the right material you could use that, but for the $8-$10 for the caliper kit which includes the dust boot it realy isn't much of a savings

you can get the o-rings for the pistons. The mazda kits are pretty cheap and come with everything you need. You cannot however get the 2 small o-rings inside the brake caliper (if you split the 2 halves of the calipers apart).

That's a good price. I suppose Pep Boys has a similar price?

not at all, most stores want 50+ except advanced auto. I've gone through 3 caliper (1 froze first, put in a used one, the other side froze, put a rebuilt in, the used one froze, put a rebuilt in. car runs fine since) I've ruined enough brake pads because of the bad caliper. I think it is a good investment to pay the 35 bucks to get the rebuilt caliper. My pads last longer than the calipers it seems

Hm.m. I bought a caliper from a guy, and he shipped it to me already split.. I figured I needed to replace the o-rings BETWEEN the halves before I put in back together.....

So.. the mazda rebuild kit does NOT have these o-rings? What do I do?

If the o-rings are shot, your either buy new calipers or find a decent set of used ones. Im not going to recommend trying to rig something, or using a similar size o-ring. Brakes are something you DONT want to screw around with.

My front driver's side caliper seized on the inside and wore the pad down to nothing. $50 isn't a bad price either.

So, basically, I have two, decent, working halves of a caliper, that I can't/shouldn't use? Surely there has to be some way to get these blasted little o-rings, and have it cost a lot less than a whole new caliper...

Stop being a cheap ***, replace it. It will haunt you if you are cheap

My friend was trying to save 20 dollars by not replacing a rear brake pad. one day his parking brake wont hold. His car rolled into 2 trees, totalled it
