I second the HKS SSQ. I finally got to hear one on a WRX, and even at about half throttle, its REALLY loud. Also, you can check into an A'PEXi Twin Chamber.

my HKS is deafening when i blow off next to ppl's windows.....but not only is it loud but it's one of the best preforming BOVs in the market.........please don't buy a BOV for you 7 based on sound......you should always do PERFORMANCE ugrades not aesthetic upgrades...

they all perform the same function....besides what "significant" performance gain can you obtain from venting vacuum into the atmosphere? so basically it just comes down to what you like best.

you don't get any performance out of em, most of the time they cause headaches but oh well, who doesn't like a little attention?

"the HKS SSQV incorporates both a small primary valve for ultra quick activation, and a larger secondary valve for additional discharge capacity. The SSQV is engineered to initially open the small primary valve at light throttle and load conditions (Diagram 2), then sequentially opens the secondary valve for additional relief capacity under high boost and load conditions (Diagram 3)"
- Taken from hks site

Even though you are detering performance by venting to the atmosphere, I guess you can still argue that you are using a the hks valve as a performance upgrade.

Are there any other bovs designed like the hks?

the SSQV is one of the best performing ones because of how it pulls rather than pushes the valve open making sure there is no boost leakage.

just recirculate it back into the intake pipe, using the stock rubber TID snorkel.

**PS**

another thing most ppl don't know, is that there's 3 different "inserts" for the HKS SSQV

each insert is a different color.. and gives off a different sound when it vents...

so u can have the same BOV but with a different sound

Yup...can't stand the HKS SSQV, liked my old HKS version (the gunmetal ceramic one). Have a Greddy Type-R and love it, big flow and great sound.

You can stick a "std." spring in it, and it'll vent like the Type-S version...under 20psi.
The Type-R with the "stiff" spring will not open anything short of 20psi.

Actually, position of where the BOV is located and which vacuum fitting you use (or T off of) can change the sound.
I've got the "kit" for the GReddy Type-S, and it's not even close to a "baby fart/laser" sound.
BTW, how does a laser "sound"?

because it is the one that does the job the best...it's a pull type BOV as opposed to the push type....it is also less prone to leak and malfunction.

There's the stock silver one, the purple one which makes it more a whoosh noise than a whistle, and then the gold one which is the same as the stock one. Just gold instead.
