I work on mostly modern cars, at work, and I can say that the FC is VERY untidy at the stock level when it comes to wiring. I call it the rats nest under the Dash. The engine compartment almost as bad.

When i installed my remote start/keyless/alarm I was like "this **** is just debauchery!".

I don't believe I've ever heard anyone use the word "debauchery" verbally...and I was an English major.

it's for the GXL auto adjusting suspension. it is unused on about 90% of the cars.

you should hang out with funkspectrum, he makes use of all the unused words in the dictionary. when you mentioned that i automatically recall hearing him use it numerous times, lol.

I've been working on the car. I got the fuel pump plug getting power at the BLUE pin now.

Now I'm moving into the alternator. It's seems as there is no W/B wire that goes to any of the wiring harnesses that go to the top of the motor. I do see it at the fuse box in the engine bay. Those go inside the cabin to a blue plug and a white 8 pin plug with 6 wires going to it. The W/B wire splits in the harness going through the drivers side firewall I to 2 smaller gauge wires.

Any clue guys?

I know the plug should be a white plug with one horizontal pin and a vertical pin both male for an S4. And side by side for an S5. Correct?

But none are to be seen on top on the motor where they should be. Do these change colors as they go into the cabin and come back out into the engine bay. And if so where at?

Can't you just hook in the Taurus alternator now?
the S4 had a 2 wire T shaped plastic connector. One wire for dash and the other wire for Alt.
I believe that you do not need them on your Taurus swap.
That T shaped connector is usually at the back of the water pump area along with the Green Temp sender connector that looks a lot like an Injector connector.

Yeah I've found all the connectors that should be for the alternator. But they don't match the colors in the FSM.

Anyone know how I can test the connector to see if the wire colors changed for some reason. I know one of them down have a heavier gauge wire on the horizontal plug as opposed to the vertical plug. My thoughts were the top plug should get the same volts as the battery? I'm also already getting volts on the dash. Without the alternator hooked up.

S4 would have a B/W and a W/B wire (B/W comes from the 15 amp Engine fuse and the W/B runs to the CPU). S5 wiring would have a W/B and a W/Blue (W/B would go to the idiot lights unit and W/Blue would run to the fuse box in the engine bay..

Hmm. That's what I thought too. According to the FSM that's right.

Here is what I have. I have the W/Blue running from the 15amp fuse in the engine bay. Going to the drivers side SPLITTING into two W/Blue wires. One runnin up to a blue connector bay goes the the switches on the cluster surround. And the other going to an 8 prong white plug that only has 6 wires going to it.

I do not have a W/B wire coming off the fuse box in the engine bay at all.

That would be a White/Blue (W/L) wire running to the engine fuse box (for an S5 alternator and not the S4 alternator).

And there should not be a 15 amp fuse in the engine bay (interior fuse box, yes).

My mistake. I meant a 30 amp fuse.

There is a thick gauge W/L wire running to the engine bay fuse box. It also has a thick gauge W/R wire running to it as well at the engine bay fuse box both connecting to the same connector at the 30 amp fuse.

I haven't checked where the W/R wire goes yet. But I know the W/L wire splits and goes to the interior. One to a 8 prong plug and the other to a blue connector plug into the gauge cluster surround, as you look at the switches, going to the turn signal switch.

There is no B/W wire coming off the fuse box in the engine bay.

The 30 amp fuse you speak of is the EGI fuse and it powers the W/R and W/L wires which run to the Main Relay. These are part of the S5 Front harness and is not an S4 harness. The W/L wire at the 30 amp EGI fuse also runs to the S5 alternator.

I think you are confusing the two fuse boxes. The interior fuse box has the B/W wire powered by the 15 amp engine fuse which runs to the alternator on the S4 only, but this is for an S4 only. I thought you stated the car was an S4 and had an S5 engine. It appears that some of your wiring harnesses are S5 but I cannot tell if all of them are or not.

If all you need is the alternator, you can still start the car and just rev it to excite it. I did that for a couple years while I was sorting out a connection problem.

That is what I'm trying to figure out as well. I'm pretty sure all the harnesses BUT the starting and charging harness. I think that is an S4.

So if I do have a S4 harness. I can stab the wire with a DMM at the interior fuse box and go to what I think is the alternator. Hmm I will have to try that tomorrow. And the other wire on that plug should run to the dash?

Also any clue as to why the volt gauge on the cluster is already showing volts?

Voltage gauge reads voltage from the Meter fuse so if you have voltage at that fuse then you have voltage to be read by the gauge.

The largest CPU plug houses the W/B wire for an S4. If you find this wire at the CPU then you can find what you think is the W/B alternator wire and do a continuity test w/the key to off (no key necessary) and if it rings out then you found your W/B wire in the engine bay.

The wires you have coming off of the EGI fuse are part of the Front harness. And the S4 has two EGI fuses.
