Bought an 88 TII tonight! $200 (long)
I posted a couple of days ago about this car and I went and paid for it tonight. I'll have to go pick it up tomorrow with a tow dolly.
I talked to the guy a little more extensively since my first post. Here's the complete story on the car:
`88 Turbo II. Silver. Needs a new driver's side mirror. Has a dent in the driver's side fender and a small dent in quarter panel. Will need new paint sometime soon as well.
I originallly thought he said it wouldn't run, but after talking to him more I found out that it does run very well, but loses water. His story is that he started it one morning when it was cold out and the coolant light came on. So he got some water and topped it off. He drove 2 blocks and it started spewing water like mad. He had it towed home, it ran but lost water and he's never been able to fix it.
He wanted $200 for it without the title. He lost the title when he moved and he's been too lazy to go apply for a lost one. He said he figured it was worth $200 for parts alone. He's right of course, but I wanted the title so I told him I'd give him $200 now and another $100 if he gets me the title. That got his *** in gear! He's going to go to the DMV first thing Monday.
Sorry this is so long, but I'm really excited! I haven't had an RX-7 in almost 3 years. I've had an `86 GXL, an`87 Base, and now an `88 TII.

One thing you should do yourself.....
Get the VIN and go to the DMV yourself and check to see there are no outstanding parking citations, etc.
This potential problem will probably fix itself via they seller getting a replacement Title. But, better safe than sorry.
If you buy the car as is, you buy it's history as is also.
Also, ask him where the water is coming from. I'm betting it is coming from the 1/2 inch hose that elbows underneath to the block. A PITA to replace (gotta pull the total intake set up), but very inexpensive repair if you do the work yourself.
Get a replacement from the dealer so it fits right. Probably should replace the other two 1/2 inch hoses while your at it.
If so, you are a very lucky guy, and I'm VERY jealous.
Congrats!!!

That's an excellent deal for that car. I certainly hope you'll be restoring it to all of it's original perfection.

Sweet as hell man! Though, if the man said it "spewed water like crazy", it could be a water seal in the engine, which would mean a complete rebuild. But still, even if that is the case, the car is worth every penny you paid!
