Bosch Re-man Starter. It broke, sort of.

I bougth a remanufactured bosch starter, the thing looks brand new, andyway. It worked great until today. It's been on the car for about 500 miles.
It's not broken, but sometimes, when I go to start the car, it will just spin and it sounds like its grinding against something. It won't turn the engine over, it will just sit and grind. If I leave it, or push start the car and drive for like 20 minutes, it will work again. I'm thinking what the hell.
It only does this sometimes though, It's weird as hell.
I know one person that has the same problem, is there anyone else?

I'm gonna get another re-man, since this one is under warranty. It just pisses me off though. My stock starter just died at 175k miles.

Either pinion is not working and not shooting out properly or your flywheel (flexplate?) gear is worn.

I think the reman is crap.
Even with a name like "Bosch", you would think it would work well, but nothing beats a Mazda reman...

I try to spend the money to get the starter from a Mazda dealer.
All others I've tried either don't work out of the box or die within weeks.

I got a reman from AutoZone, and they come with lifetime warranties. All I had to do was take it in, they tested it, and gave me a new one. Easy as pie. And that was after we went through a flood with it and then it sat for a year in my parts bin. Took it in and swapped it out. No questions asked. And Ive never had one just go out, it was only from the flood and then sitting for a few years in a bin.

I think it cost less than $100..infact...im thinking it was $8? + TAX...cant remember right off. But I would definitely not want to buy one from the stealership. How much did that cost you Ted? Just curious.

I know this is a slightly different situation, but my local dealer has starters rebuilt by a local alternator/starter shop.

To me even lifetime warranties are not worth it...
This happened once...
The first replacement did not work at all.
The second one spun VERY slowly.
The third one was intermittent on engagement.
We threw it away after wasting 4 hours going back an forth to the car parts store and replacing the starter three times!

The local dealers are a rip in Hawaii, but I've got connections where I can get Mazda parts at almost cost.
If not, Mazdaformance has them for decent prices - http://www.mazdaformance.com/
