Exclamation Boost seems too high!

First off, mods are in sig.

I recently had my engine rebuilt, and I'm taking it in to my builder / tuner for my 2000 mile check and tune on Friday.

I was reading my boost controllers manual (Greddy Profec B Spec II), and decided to go ahead and save him a little reading by setting the small stuff. I turned on Peak Boost Recording, turned it to PSI instead of Bar, and turned my Warning on to 8.2 PSI.

Out of curiousity, on the way to school I went WOT to see what kind of peak boost I was hitting.

Two facts:

- Previous owner said he put in a FCD.
- Previous owner also said the wastegate was ported.. but I dont know if I can believe him

After letting off the throttle, I checked my peak boost reading. 9.2 PSI on a car running no upped boost, no upgraded turbo, streetport, and stock exhaust except for the 2.5" turbo-to-catback single downpipe.

Now... what might be accounting for this high reading? I was expecting somewhere from 5.5-7 at the most, and this sort of scared me.

I'm afraid now that when I put on the RacingBeat Turboback exhaust, it's going to push my car to much higher levels. I want to keep it about 11 until I can afford upgrade the intercooler.

I'm getting either a Haltech E6k or E6x (Still deciding) within the month, because I no longer want to depend on the old ECU for this timebomb. I'll feel safer after I do that and it's tuned and everythings checked, but until then can you give me some ideas of why it's doing this to play with in my mind?

Some interesting things: My engine builder didn't remember seeing an FCD and I couldn't locate one by the passenger strut tower - does that mean it's wired in near the ECU?

Right now it doesn't appearing I'm getting any boost spikes. My gain is set at 10% right now, and my boost raise is set to base boost (0).

The turbo seems to take too long to spool up - but this is my first turbo car, so I don't know what reasonable times are. Once I'm on the throttle, it takes about 1/4 to 1/2 a second for the boost to respond, and takes another 1/2 to 3/2 seconds to climb near the .5bar mark.

So, any ideas? Questions? Comments? I'm afraid to get on the throttle now, because I was informed the stock ECU can't handle timing above 8.6 bar very well, and thats how one of the people I know popped his motor twice.

I'm going to wait until I get my Haltech unit or until I figure out the situation before I go WOT again, but anything is appreciated.

It does sound a little high but not unreasonable.
Are you running some kinda air filter?
The FCD could be wired at the ECU.

Yeah, you SHOULDN'T have been able to get to 9.2# without a FCD, so there must be one somewhere. That does seem high for what level you are boosting. Lastly the spool up time sounds exactly as it should.

Your getting that with the stock catback!?!? wow, something is not as it should be.
