Question Boost questions? In reguards to my setup.

Okay here is the situation. I just finished rebuilding my my 10AE about a week ago, I have put about 700 miles on the motor so far. Right now I have a very stock setup (see mods below) I need it this way to pass smog. So, I have my stock exsaust system and stock intake on the car, stock TID, and stock injectors installed. Once I smog the car later next week I will put all the rest of my goodies on. I do have the upgraded turbo on the motor, the S-AFC, the HP chip in the ECU Ect. Ect. What I want to know is; when should boost kick in? What detirmines when the car should boost? My problem is this; I have not taken the car over about ~3600 RPM’s but I have pushed the pedal down pretty good, and I get NO boost? Do I have to kick in the secondaries to get boost? Shouldn’t I at least get some boost before 3800 RPM’s? I want to make sure I have no seriuos issues here before I proceed to finish this ting up. I have never drove a working Turbo’ed RX-7 .. and im not quite sure what to expect… but the stock gauge does not go above 0, and I don’t hear or feel anything in the way of boost? Is there something wrong here? Or is this just 2 low RPM for boost to kick in? My motor is streetported. Thx for the info.

just wait till you get the exhuast, intake, and TID on

and you probably don't wanna be boosting with only 700 miles anyways...

Well, I know I just want to know if it should be doing somthing? ... I don't want to boost hard .. but I would like to see the gauge hit at least 0, so I know everything is working, is it normal to not have any boost at that low of RPM? Give this poor soul piece of mind

maybe I need more RPM's do to the street port? or bigger Turbo???

Im not turbo expert at all, but you should be boosting a lil bit at least. Maybe your wastegate is stuck or over ported. But like the other guy said, wait for the mods and im sure you will get some boost.

hey rob, it may be different on your setup because of the upgraded turbo (slow to spool??)...but i have about 800 on my rebuilt street port engine and it boosts fine, or at least i'd like to think so...
anyway, below 3000 rpm you can hear the turbo spooling and actually see the needles on both the stock and autometer boost gauge go up above 0...maybe about 1-2 psi @ 3000 rpm if i bump the gas a little (in every gear)...but then again i have my dp, presilencer, stock cat-back and intake w/ the stock s5 turbo and the bc set at 10psi so that might be the differece too...

Ya, its kinda bugging me ... I would think i should be getting somthing. What besides the wastgate would cause me not to get any boost in any gear? The Turbo, and wastegate was done by BnRSupercars. I am sure Byran checked it out ... he told me my compressor wheel was gone, and let me know all the other things I needed to get done. So I would assume he properly ported the wastegate & checked its functionality. So .. I will disclude the turbo for the moment, what else might cause this? Any solniods, or electrical, vacuum connections?

Thx,
Robert

Nothing besides the wastegate, unless you have some huge intake leak, but the car wouldn't run with that.

Also, you may want to make sure your boost guage is reading properly. The stock ones suck.

my streetport didn't change my boost response hardly at all, all it really changed was streetability up hills and gave me some more high rpm hp

Well the stock guage moves, it bounces up a little bit based on how far my foot is on the gas... but it never goes within a 1/8th of a inch of 0. Also .. I don't feel, or hear any boost going on .. no turbo whine or anything like that, no added power, so I don't think its the gauge, I have a aftermarket guage to install .. but I don't want to tip off the smog people to a aftermarket turbo .. so I have not installed that yet either.

Rob, you got any pictures of your CAI/TID up?
I was searching through the archives and I came across a post about your intake, but the links to the pics were dead.
