Bonez Intake kit

Anyone bought one of these? Im picking up a boost controller and figured Id pick this up while Im at it. They want $109 for it. Comes with the aluminum AFM adaptor, duel cone filter, and brackets. How did you like the quality? Gotta be better than the airbox. Maybe pick up a few HP while Im at it, along with 4 more psi from the stock turbo.

Yes, but how good are those ebay kits? I would question the quality of a $10 filter kit. In fact I would NEVER trust it on my car. Hell, a decent drop-in square filter costs more than that.
I have that kit and am very happy with it. It is basically like the Apex or K&N filter kits, but with a slightly different filter design. It is a reusable filter that works just like any K&N filter and even uses the same "recharger" oils and stuff.
One thing, though, is that you will need to get a cold air kit to see the most gains from it. When you just slap it on you will be sucking in hot engine bay air which isn't good for power.

I can make something for the filter. I have some pipe laying around. Also, did you notice any performance gains from it right off? Any change in sound? If anything itll clear up some room in the engine bay

buy a K&N Filter and the adaptor off ebay. Alot less than that, unless that bracket that holds the afm is worth $50 to u.

When I first started with RX-7's about 7 or 8 years ago I bought the bonez kit.. Still have it. Great kit.. but WAYYY overpriced. Its a good high quality filter element... ACTUAL K&N stuff.. Not like the majority of eBay kits that are just some random paper filter element. Like the blue ones. If you get a cone, get ACTUAL K&N material....

My kit came with the big cone, a large hose clamp, a small filter for the air-pump, and a small hose clamp for that... thats pretty much all it came with.. so over 100 bucks seems like ***-raping. It should come with a sixer of beer for that price if they are going to violate you like that.

Well if someone could find me the adaptor on ebay, along with a website with an actual k&n filter of the correct size then i might go that route. otherwise this is simple and looks to be of good quality.

I could measure the inside diameter of the one I have if you want.... But its for S5... Doesn't have the adapter for the square AFM.

I have the Bonez kit. Love it, great amount of surface area exposed and the filter quality is very very good. A bit pricy but it is worth it.

That one says non turbo only. Though you cant believe what 90% of the ebay sites tell you. Mines a turbo if you didnt catch that earlier. That price does sound nice though, $35 for a k&n and adaptor

Yeah. There's a turbo one too if you search "RX-7 K&N" I think thats what criteria I used......

I'm not even sure if the bolt-pattern on the AFM is different from turbo to non-turbo.

Ive never been one to trust ebay for new parts. I buy used part from there a good bit. Like one kit I noticed said K&N filter and showed a k&n box, but the logo on top of the filter didnt look k&n to me, looked like a cheap knockoff. Might just buy an adaptor and then find a real K&N elsewhere. Id imagine I could find a real filter for probably $30-$40, then $10-$20 for the afm adaptor

If you have an afm handy, easy to get to, if you wouldnt mind, get the measurment for me. if not I can get it off of mine tomarrow and locate the correct size filter neck

On second thought, Im just going Bonez on this one. After looking around, all of the other AFM adaptors I found look very poorly made. Inside is filled with sharp edges and places that cant be good for flow. the Bonez has a solid smooth bore. Ill drop the extra $50 just for my comfort of knowing what Im getting. thanks anyway Micaheli

i personally think that all those k and n type filters are the same... medical guaze is medical gauze.. thats what they all use....... the only differences between any and all these filters that you guy whine/bitch/swear by is the metal grid that holds it all together the cheap ones rust easier. its all the same damn thing.... your money people spend it how you want... the only thing that makes k and n remotely special is they make vehicle specific stuff. how much of k and n's stuff is made in the USA?......hmm probably not to far away from the factory that makes your ebay ones.... people hear k and n and think gold and horsepower its just such a popular name it sells itself..... signed 300rwhp stock port cheapass.....without the help of k and n... yaay ebay......

ok, you should not be sweating your intake on a turbo car. You can upgrade your TID or at least make sure the stock one has no problems with it, and then focus on exhaust, which is going to give you the most power and can also cause big problems (in terms of boost creep).

i just wanted a k&n for the cleaner look. a filter is a filter to me (unless its apexi), but the ebay ones are ussualy metal and in bright *** ugly colors. I wanted a simple black rubber base and top with a clean redish orange K&N filter element. bonez doesnt use k&n but looks close enough for me

not sweating it, just have an extra $100 laying around and this is all i can afford right now, as my turbo, exhaust and fmic will be coming soon down the road. already have my fuel taken care of, and going to have to upgrade my rtek 1.8 to a 2.0, otherwise i have nothing else to really buy right now

haha hmm extra 100 bucks what you do is this.. get rid of that stupid stock crap get a honda intake(40$ with filter) chop it go to home repo get a 3 inch rubber hose connector($10) use it as a spacer from the honda intake to the MAF then get a 90 degree 3" elbow(15) remove the washerbottle make the washer bottle hole bigger to pass the 3 inch elbow through. then get a fantabulous 3 inch 90* chrome/plastic intake elbow from any parts store($10) connect it going towards the front of the car then put on the air filter... call it the coldest ambient air possible. under 100 bucks:-P works fine for me i can see my filter from the front of the car. NOt to mention the cool loud turbo rice points i get
