Bolts/Studs from the Cat
Hey, I'm in the process of replacing the cat-back portion of my exhaust. I've come to find that at some time in the past someone else had worked on the exhaust somewhat. Part of the evidence of this is that one of the studs coming out of the back of the final catalytic converter is sheared/torqued off at the gasket (so there are no threads protruding to put a nut on).
From looking at it, it looks like the only way to fix this is get a new catalytic converter.. but maybe I'm just frustrated and not seeing something obvious.. anyone know how to swap out that bolt/stud without swapping out the whole cat?
I want to keep the emissions on the car, so going without the cat is not a valid option for me.
Many thanks..

drill or torch out what is left of the bolt/stud and then put a nut and bolt through the hole you made where the old bolt/stud was use a lock-washer under your new nut so it doesn't vibrate loose

I think you'll find you won't be able to use a nut as it would be inside the converter. When I purchased my S5TII new, the dealer busted a stud on the main converter as they needed to replace the rear oil seal while the vehicle was still under warranty. A bolt worked just fine, but on yours you'll need to drill and tap the hole first. Not too difficult if you have the tools.

Thanks Turbonut.. I think drill & tap would be what I'd have to do.. that probably means taking it off and trying to find a way to get it held right in a drill press. Hmm..
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
