Blue Smoke cont. plugs are clean of oil - what next??

Ok, I looked at the plugs this morning, they are dry with normal buildup. I also pulled off a hose that's coonnected to the intercooler to look for oil. The hose I pulled off is an elbow piece about 6" long located at the pass. side front of the intercooler. No oil there either.

So where do I check now or did I look at the wrong intercooler hose?

I've got the dough for about 2K in upgrades but can't do squat until I fix this - more input please....thanks.

I get blue smoke in between shifts and for a couple secs after I come to a red light. Just inbstalled boost and a/f gauges last night I'm stoich yellow (ok) in 1-4 gears all redlined. I'm finishing boost this afternoon (it was missing a fitting).

bump-post augmentation...

Got the boost hooked up and the highest I saw was 7psi at about 5500-6000 in 4th.

I'm not getting a lot of support here - there's over 9000 members and I find it hard to believe that no one knows anything about this.

does the blue smoke come on at higher rpms and when you let off the gas..... if so usually that indicates a turbo rebuild

I see it during the following conditions:

1. in between shifts during high rpm acceleration
2. when I come to a stop, push in clutch and car comes down to idle. once it comes to idle it'll smoke for 2-3 seconds and stop...cough cough.

Have you looked at the inside of the compressor housing on the turbo? If there is an excessive amount of oil in the compressor inlet? If so then your seal that contains the oil inside the center housing may be going allowing oil to be injested and then burned off.

As noboost stated, the oil seals sound as if they are bad. If the seals are bad, there's not much you can do short of rebuild.

Right...what you should do is drive your car until it's warmed up and when in first gear let off the gas completely at high rpms (4000-6000). Then look behind you to see if there is any smoke. Basically, what this is testing is your oil seals ability to control oil at high vacuum levels. The smoke you see when you shift could be to oil getting sucked from the seals due to the momentary pressure change in the intact tract.

Good luck.

If it is the turbo smoking (blue oil smoke under boost or coming off heavy boost) and everything looks clean including the spark plugs, it's the turbine "snap" ring that's leaking the oil...

I'm still in the middle of my "vacation", so my participation will still be sparse!

I've finally nailed down my website, so when I get back into Vegas in a couple weeks, I'll "restart" all the tech stuff that was on K2RD before...hopefully, this'll keep the posts down a bit.

I certainly hope that's the case for obvious cost reasons..

Thanks to all!
