Blown motor, Tear down time.

Blown motor, Tear down time.
Well 2 days after I fix every issue with my car, the motor blows. I was not even screwing around. I was driving to a friends, downshift from 3rd to 2nd going 30 and breaking, and POP.
No power, no idle, wont start, only hear one rotor making compression.
RIP My Turbo II at 75k.
I knew the 95 compression was a bad sign and I should have never ran 10psi with the stock turbo, but man...... it was fun while it lasted .
I am rebuilding the motor with a set of Mazda seals and giving it a light port. Then its sold.
Ah the life of a rotary owner......

I found ONE bad hose clamp on my intercooler pipe. Looks like it failed, the pipe was nearly 1/2 way off. Its funny because I was going to replace that clamp the next time I had the IC off . I think the car read it was taking in much more air then was reachin the motor, when I let off, it leaned out bad and POP.

I just hate to see a low miliage, good condition TII swaped into a V8 monstrosity .

I'd HATE to cut up anything on this car or do anything irreversible. The FB (and I've had a few of those) I wouldn't hesitate to cut up (which is not necessary for a 302 swap).
My trepidation has nothing to do with the V8 swap naysayers, in fact they just egg me on (in to putting a dinosaur motor in a "rare" S5 TII).

Question for you guys. Theres a rebuild NA motor at a local junk yard, I could get it for $100. It has around 30k on it and it looks like its got new housings. Could I use these NA housings for my TII motor, or are they weaker? Are the water passages different? Mabey I should just spend the $250/$300 for some good used ones.

There are a few differences, the main one being that the NA housings have diffusers in the exhaust ports. However, you could definitely make some money buying and parting out the junkyard motor, especially if the housings are new.

You can use an NA in the front position, but must use a t2 one in the rear, unless you can drill the hole and machine the bevel for the coolant passage for the LIM/turbo. You'll have to either swap sleeves with the NA for the exhaust, or cut out the diffuser. Other than that, they're identical in casting and strength.

Ok cool.
I will get the motor tommorow and see whats with it. I know it sticks and wont turn over (it was running going into the yard, but sat with no plugs in it).
I could part it out I guess? It has a ACT clutch, newer injectors and a header. Hurm...

what blew your engine? i mean 10psi on stock everything seems a little high if u have no bigger injectors or fpr...is that why?
im a bit worried since u said initially u have 95psi on both rotors....my rotors which are already 15k miles too have aaround 95-98psi on cheap *** autozone compression tester gauge..
do u think i should be worried as well? i am goin all out on fuel system and a standalone , just wondering is my compression considered healthy or dying very soon. thanks

Yep, all the way around.
The old ones make good show cases .
I shouldnt have ran 10psi, I know. Thats what my boost creep hit, even with a highly ported wastegate. 8psi normal, 10psi+ stomping on it. It sucks because I have the GSL SE injectors and SAFCII sitting on my desk :-\.

wow. youre hosed. in those pics the pasasages look nasty!
not to beat a dead horse but you should throw a V8 in there.... NOT a puny 302, NOT an iron block sbc or sbf, but an all aluminum, super-short overall height, super awesome 6-speed LS1T56 setup in your T2 shell.
man, even I dont think I would build a V8 RX7 wth either of those V8's you have layng around. even if they were free. why? the FC is such a nice chassis, it should be given the LS1 motor... small size but big power, stock!
BUT, I would build another LS1FC if I had the money... mine ******' rips.
anyhow, good luck with your turbo rotary. heh.
