Blow off Valve adjustment... why did it take so many.

Ok so I got my Turbo XS blow off valve installed today. Well the style uses washers to adjust it and it comes w/ 6 washers. I put all those in and it was still sticking open at idle and causing it to die on startup. So I started adding more and more and more... well came to like 14 over all why so many? I don't think I chose a good valve.

Does it have a screw adjustment as well? I don't know my BOV's, but the cheap one I have can be adjusted some by threading it farther down or back up. I also had to add a spring and maybe one washer to get it to stop leaking, now it works great. I'd say as long as you can get it to operate correctly it's no big deal.

Well ok sounds good enough to me lol. It does not have any adjustments other then the washers though. I just couldn't believe how many it took.

Turbo XS BOV's have notoriously uneven quality. Some always seem to leak, some leak with a bunch of washers, some don't. Friend of mine ran 23psi (not an Rx-7) on his Turbo XS but he put at least 10 washers in it.

Other types of BOV's like the Greddy ones operate more like an external wastegate with an adjustable spring

I think it seals just fine but he spring was just really weak. Literally have the spring compressed at least 50% maybe more. Maybe I can find a stiffer spring and take out some of the washers.

What I did with mine was add a spring. If you can't find a spring big enough to replace the one in there you might try adding a smaller one that will fit inside the larger spring.
