Blding a cheap diagnostic tool: where?
I read in a post, a few months ago, how to build a cheap led diagnostic tool. The codes were outputted through two leds. The number of long and short flashes from each diode determined the code. The flashes were decoded by a reference table.
I've been searching with no luck.
Anybody remember where this was?
Thanks.

Thanks Irv!
Just built mine this afternoon....came out great.
Ran the diagnostic: 2 lights on for 3 seconds, then off. No blinking lights. Good to go.
Have attached a pic of the Radio shack special ...sure beats spending the $1500.
Out of curiosity, are there any other functions that the $1500 SST performs that this simple led system can't tell me?
Thanks again.

This tool is stated to only be used with the 86 through 88s. Sorry, not familiar with S5 vs year.
89-91s use a built in computer function to serve as a diagnostic....I read in the attachment that you need to jumper one of the connectors. Then, something on the dash blinks the codes. See the attatched URL by Irv. Explains a lot.
Good luck.
