i would just paint the rubstrips, or get the series 5 ones and paint them.
erm, for affordable rub srtips id check the for sale forum or go search a junkyard
for new, mazdatrix.com but theyre pretty expensive. it would run you about $400-500 for all new ones.
ive been considering vinyl dying mine to get them black again, theyre sorta crusty

If your stock S4 trim is looking old/faded, you guys can just re-paint them yourself and get professional looking results very very easily. This is the method I used for mine about 2 years ago...
Here is what you need:
-2 cans of flat black "bumper" paint from any auto parts store
-Thick masking tape (1.5 - 2 inches or so)
-Newspaper
-Rubbing alcohol
-Scotch brite scuffing pad
Step one, wash and dry your car as you normally would - hopefully with a quality mitt and car wash solution. Once you're done drying you can start the prep:
1) Start outlining the trim with masking tape all around the car. Thicker tape will serve you better to avoid ANY overspray so you can overlap newspaper and more tape around these "outlines."
2) Once that's all done, start masking off the rest of the car with newspaper/tape all around the car overlapping those trim lines so you won't get any overspray.
3) Now that the car is all masked, you've got to clean the trim. Use rubbing alcohol and an old terry cloth rag to get out as much dirt as you can.
4) Once the trim is clean, you can use the scotch brite pad to scuff the surface a bit to get your paint to really stick well and lay evenly. When you finish this step, clean again quickly with your towel and the alcohol.
5) Now you're ready for the easy part...painting! The key to using spray paint is to keep the can moving and use light coats. The bumper paint has some flexible additives in it and it covers very easily. Wait about 30 minutes before you start un-masking the car.
When the paint is totally dry, it will have a nice satin finish. This really helps amke any S4 look a lot better.

everyone that says to change to s5 moulding must be forgetting that you have to swap front and rear bumper covers also, basically doing a s4 to s5 body conversion...... which looks good, but i dont think thats what this guy had in mind!
about painting the moulding..... personally, i think having a big black stripe on yellow car will tun it into a bumble bee......... paint everything........ your contrast will come from your wheels.... yellow rx7's look great! but do what you think will look good

Paint the rub strips unless you want everyone to know your car was made in the 80s.
Some people do, thats nto my place to judge.
Theres not enough difference to justify buying S5 trim really, its more trouble than its worth.
Just stick with S4 trim and paint it.
