If you install an aftermarket electric fan, you need to custom make a shroud that covers the entire radiator for a good pull. Most guys just slap the fan right on top of the RAD and this is not very effective...do it right plus you got to make sure that fan pulls 2200cfm + on a N/A .Turbo models would obviously be more

I just talked to Dave at KDRotary in PA. Yes, the stock fan flows a lot. If it's working, great. If you plan on upgrading your radiator or front mount intercooler piping, you might want to consider an electric fan. He recommended the Black Magic as well, as long as if flows at least 2700+ cfm. He also noted the importance of proper installation.
If I'm waiting in between 1/4 mile runs or autocross runs, I would like to toggle my fan or have it run with the turbo timer. He said it could free up to 5 hp. He said the installation is very easy. Read the link above my reply.

i know how to install and wire the E fan and ifve read the FAQ section. but i was wondering about a specific fan install.. i was wondering if people who used the black magic 180 had to trim the shroud to fit around the upper and lower rad hose connectors..

Wow, some people just don't read the original posters question... I have this fan in my car.

The BM 180 Extreme has a shroud and it just about covers the whole radiator, no need to make a shroud for it...

If you have a Koyo then you will have to trim a bit of the shroud around the upper neck OR you can have someone kinda melt\reform the sections of the shroud that contact the radiator necks. Mine is trimmed to fit so theres a gap there that I need to find a way to cover at some point. I recently saw an FC with a koyo and BM 180 and they had reshaped the shroud to kinda flatten that section instead of trimming it. It looked NICE, I wish I had done that with mine when I saw it.

There is no need to "upgrade" the cooling fan because you're changing he radiator. Upgrading the radiator allows you to make more power without overheating, but the amount of power the engine's making has no bearing on the fan. The stock fan will work just as well on a 500hp engine as it will a stock one because when the fan is actually needed (low speed and stopped), the engine is making only a fraction of it's peak power.

While I think these are silly reasons to spend money replacing a perfectly functional stock, at least you're not doing it because you think you'll get better cooling or more power. That's a refreshing change around here...

You'd get better far cooling simply by opening the hood rather than blowing air off a radiator at 180deg...

When I installed this fan I already had an FD alt. This fan does pull some hefty power so I think upgrading the alt to at least an FD alt would be a good idea but I'm not sure if it is 100% needed. Depends on your setup and what other power draws you may have added(steroe etc.).

You mean "amps" not "volts".

I been thinking of doing a efan also for the room. A lot of people on the boards seem to think its not worth it or needed. So idk wat to do yet, cuz I'm also running on stock s4 alt.

and E fan pretty much requires a upgraded or excellent condition alt.

Most E-fans will draw anywhere from 20-70 amps peak on start up and anywhere from 15-40 amps when running.

You need around 20-25 amps for lighting at night.

You need around 20-25 amps to run the motor.

Its about 10 amps for the brake lights on.

Most aftermarket stereo's draw anywhere from 10-50 amps on average.

A stock S4 alt puts out 70 amps peak in excellent condition, a stock S5 alt puts out 80 amps peak in excellent condition.

Do the math before spending the money.
