Black magic xtreme 180
I serched this topic for an hour and couldnt find the info i was lookin for im sry if this has been coverd already.....i bought a bm xtreme 180 fan and i was wondering if anyone else has installed this fan...if so how did you modify it to fit around the upper and lower rad hose...or did you just move it over a couple inches?? thanx ahead of time for any replies.....

If you install an aftermarket electric fan, you need to custom make a shroud that covers the entire radiator for a good pull. Most guys just slap the fan right on top of the RAD and this is not very effective...do it right plus you got to make sure that fan pulls 2200cfm + on a N/A .Turbo models would obviously be more

first of the stock fan shroud and fan look like ****..if you have a e fan on there it looks much better and my fan has a built in shroud and its the same size as the rad..and it pulls 3300 cfm...its supossed to be the best e fan u can get for a rx7...does anyone have the same fan installed???

I just talked to Dave at KDRotary in PA. Yes, the stock fan flows a lot. If it's working, great. If you plan on upgrading your radiator or front mount intercooler piping, you might want to consider an electric fan. He recommended the Black Magic as well, as long as if flows at least 2700+ cfm. He also noted the importance of proper installation.
If I'm waiting in between 1/4 mile runs or autocross runs, I would like to toggle my fan or have it run with the turbo timer. He said it could free up to 5 hp. He said the installation is very easy. Read the link above my reply.

i know how to install and wire the E fan and ifve read the FAQ section. but i was wondering about a specific fan install.. i was wondering if people who used the black magic 180 had to trim the shroud to fit around the upper and lower rad hose connectors..

lol im not looking for hp gain im looking for a clean engine bay without that gay cluch fan and shroud..and i like to be able to leave it on in the pits to help cool the engine when its NOT running...plus i hate the sound of that loud *** clutch fan...and it just looks alot better then the stock fan.....................

Wow, some people just don't read the original posters question... I have this fan in my car.
The BM 180 Extreme has a shroud and it just about covers the whole radiator, no need to make a shroud for it...
If you have a Koyo then you will have to trim a bit of the shroud around the upper neck OR you can have someone kinda melt\reform the sections of the shroud that contact the radiator necks. Mine is trimmed to fit so theres a gap there that I need to find a way to cover at some point. I recently saw an FC with a koyo and BM 180 and they had reshaped the shroud to kinda flatten that section instead of trimming it. It looked NICE, I wish I had done that with mine when I saw it.

i went with the fiero fan its shroud covers almost perfecty only a inch or so on one of the sides it doesnt catch but its also powerful and pulls good enough cfm for my turbo II without any problems

Most E-fans will draw anywhere from 20-70 amps peak on start up and anywhere from 15-40 amps when running.
You need around 20-25 amps for lighting at night.
You need around 20-25 amps to run the motor.
Its about 10 amps for the brake lights on.
Most aftermarket stereo's draw anywhere from 10-50 amps on average.
A stock S4 alt puts out 70 amps peak in excellent condition, a stock S5 alt puts out 80 amps peak in excellent condition.
Do the math before spending the money.
