Big POP on start
Alright i've been having troubles starting the car. When it does start after a few cranks i've noticed a large pop sound. Any idea what it could be?

did u change spark plugs lately? i heard that when I changed my plugs, and in the end, the plug wires were reversed like the L1 and L2 were switched
check it out, L1 should be the lower of the front rotor near the radiator
L2 should be the one near the firewall
check Trailing also
unlike Pistons, rotary idles rock solid with the wires swapped... so its not easy to find out

NGK BUR7EQ? for leading
BUR9EQ for trailing
but it might not be the reason for the pop though....
that is what i heard when i had my wires crossed and changed plugs
but never found out what it was.....
the spark plugs in OEM Spec is more than enough for daily use and some performance
if u want u can go Iridium or platinum/gold (i forget which) in NGK, but it is more expensive, and considering that Rotaries EAT plugs like crazy.... 35-40 bucks for a Iridium plug is not really worth it...
i'm planning to get a Crane Hi-6 CDI ignition soon, which many people say will increase gas milleage, improve spark, and make the plugs last longer, so that is a good investment.
if u are running high boost turbo (but u said S4 NA i know =) then i've heard running 9s all the way around makes it smoother in high-end but low end might suffer (thats what i'm running now, BUR9EQ in all four, don't feel much affects in low end)
and there are many info avaliable, but don't use Piston type Plugs....

improve spark - yes
make the plugs last longer - if they're being replaced because they foul, yes. If it's because they are simply worn out, the MSD function will wear them out sooner.
If you haven't bought yet, you may wish to compare the specs between the Crane and what Mallory/Mr Gasket has to offer.
Just so that this isn't a complete hijack, my car used to occasionally pop on startup. It hasn't since the CD box (capcitive discharge, not the Alpine head unit) was installed.

anyways, about that pop, i still cannot find what is the reason is that caused my pop. (hope it is not any seals inside the engine itself) but I guess I'll check and advise u to check vaccum hoses, mostly big ones, and i guess check the exhaust pipes to see if anything's up... I checked my vac hoses, and well they were ok... now i need to check my Exhaust system... see if there were any pops (hopefully not the cat
