I got a '91 TII (ill slap up my ugly sig ) for a few months now, no abnormal maintence needed (TPS has been the only thing replaced thusfar, BTW 89-91 TII TPS is 290! About 160 for the NA's...pisses me off.../endrant)

I love the car. A lot of the things people list as the cons aren't that bad. Seatbelts for example. I've always liked the little mice running along with the belts. Also, they have a lifetime warranty from mazda, so if they ever break, its a free fix. As far as fitment of everything, the bolts on this car are just as tight as my '83 (a bitch to get off in other words...)

The front bumper is different, and painted moldings are the **** (inner rice, been beat down with the performance stick...)

I'll also be the first to say any choice in RX-7s whether it be series 4 (86-88) or series 5 (89-91) is a good choice (shameless plug )

As a general rule, newer cars are better than the older ones. Get the newest car you can afford. The 89-91's are better than the 86-88's but I think the difference is pretty marginal.

At work i have a certified truck scale. They're usually accurate to
+ or - 20lbs. With a full tank of gas, and me out of it, my car weighs in at 2720lbs. I did remove all the usual crap, like spare tire and stuff, and replaced the exaust. Just curious, how much does a 86-88 weigh in at? CJ

i would go '89 rather than any other year, because in '90 they did some cost reduction parts changing, so the 90's+ would have more problems than the '89s. plus they did the HP boost in '89 so that 89gxls have 160hp and T2's have 210hp. also they did some minor body mods to '89-92 so the newer ones look nicer

Fairly reliable. It's all in the tuning and making sure the car is getting enough fuel for the boost levels you are seeing after an exhaust and other power mods.

88 SE

Although I do agree with you guys about 89-90 rx7's, I have an 88 SE that is in great shape with only 46k miles and I think it's way better than any 89-90 rx7's ive seen
