best transmission choice... rx8 or miata box?

this is for a daily driver n/a with no emissions, so i think the miata boz would be great because it has the taller first gear. but the rx8 has 6 gears with a gear in between our 2 and 3 which could come in handy.
miata box is gonna be cheaper and easier to find too.
this car also may go turbo once the engine blows or else massive street port.
what would be best for acelleration, torque and gas mialage.
help me choose!

S4 N/A.

Miata gear are nice for acceleration (I suppose), but the 5th gear is too high for gas mileage.

The RX8 transmission isn't exactly plug and play.

The miata box would probably be the only feasable option, cost and practicality wise, but like most questions of this nature, if you have to ask, it will probably never be done anyway.

I guess keeping the stock tranny was too easy?

From what I understand, the RX-8 box is the same as the Miata 6-speed, with a different bellhousing. Meaning that the RX-8 box isn't really that strong (not that you can't drive it hard without breaking it).

Personally, I'd look into getting a different differential. That'll give you change across the board and you should find one that suits you.

Whats wrong with the stock transmission? The 5-speed in my overweight convertible is geared perfectly. I can only imagine how much more fun it would be with a lighter vehicle. Keep your transmission and put the money into other mods.

well i need a new tranny anyway mine is on its last leg, and i have zero low end, so the stock box sucks for hills. thats why i like the miata box. and i can get one cheaply too. i just dont know about the strength

Neither will work if you go turbo.

The Miatabox has been told to not support over 190-200rwhp well.

The RX8 box has been being replaced (under warranty) on STOCK RX8's nationwide, as it is too weak even for the RX8 (180rwhp stock).

So to the guy who said the RX8 box is just like the Miata-6speed box...is obviously completely right :O

If you please, put in a Turbo drivetrain. Get a cheap turbo tranny, get it rebuilt, grab a turbo driveshaft with NA rearend adapter (from mazdatrix). And all the halfshafts, etc...

If you're going to do something...do it right the first time.

um, for gas mileage purposes (and for winter, since i live in CT) i am buying an old saab for $900. It saves on gas, insurance, and saves wear on the love of my life (my 1987 turboII with 47,000 miles). consider what you want to spend on your rx-7, versus get another dd
