Question Best tool, product, technique to clean intake manifolds & surge tank?

I'm tearing down an S4 N/A engine I just purchased, and there's a disturbing amount of crud in the intakes.

What's the best way to clean it out?

Thanks!

brake cleaner and a wire brush plus a little elbow grease go a long way. A die grinder and a wire attachment can be a big help if you have them too.

acidtone (spelled wrong) or wd40 can break down grease and heavy carbon build up better since it doesn't evaporate right away. If you have a safe container you can also use gas.

Gas is a bad idea its just to flammable. Go to a parts store and buy a five gal bucket of parts cleaner put the parts in there and let them soak for awhile then all that grime should come off with relative ease.

Remove everything then sandblast the manifolds.

simple green, purple power both work great and alot less than sand blasting them..used bucket of purple power let them soak for a day then sprayed brake/carb cleaner and it took the risidual carbon build up right off.

I got a 20 gallon Parts tank full of simple green so i dont have to do anything but soak it. I haven't had to brush, pick, or scrap any part i put in there yet. Just get your self a big rubbermaid tube and pour a gallon of Simple Green or Purple Power (your choice) and walk away. yet the chemical do the work.

Carb cleaner, or throttle body cleaner. It's designed to remove the carbon and varnish.
