True, but it does save a lot of money in the long run. I wouldn't call it a bang for buck mod, but I would consider it as a next mod.

for a SAFC - how do you tune it with a wideband?
i dont want to blow up my car... so if i was to take it to a dyno, would most likely people who work @ the dyno location be able to tune it?

If you have not done it already, a full tuneup. And then replace all the bearings, bushings and other "hard" wear parts.
After that, I have to agree that an S-AFC is probably the best bet. You will get the maximum gains by dyno tuning, but you can get a "rough" tune using the "butt dyno" and a big hill, a G-Tech, or a stopwatch.
Don't worry about blowing up your car as it is very difficult to detonate an NA with the brutalness that kills the turbo engines.

i'd say if you are up to it mechanically, get a set of S5 intake manifolds and mate them to your S4, also while doing this port the intake manifolds. This is fairly cheep if you can do ityour self. the only real price is the intake manifolds and then some new vac hoses.

get the underdrive pully kit, Mazda Racing sells a nice one! i tthink its like $250 a little pricy but it is nice. they claim 10 HP for N/A and like 15 for turbo cars.

I would get a new suspension. Since I did mine it feels like a new car. I still have to install the energy suspension kit and the DTSS eliminators but a new set of struts/springs/sways/F&R strut bars/ SS clutch and brake lines would make the car handle and respond better than factory new. I would say flywheel but if i am going to replace the flywheel I am going to get a clutch kit at the same time.

Definitely springs/struts if you don't have a set. For a street car, the ground control coilovers are hard to beat. $400 gets you their height adjustable collars and eibach race springs in a variety of rates, tell them what you use the car for and they will suggest a set of rates. Then, KYB AGX struts are also a great street-car-friendly choice. For the combined price, you're near the cost of an entry level set of "real" coilovers but blowing out a damper on a set of non-stocked coilovers can really stink if your car is a daily driver. Sending a unit out for a rebuild means your car is down for a bit.

...94% correct.
NEVER put underdrive pullies on a street car. Do you have any idea what that does to your cooling and electrical systems and such?
For $500 I would invest strongly in quality guages...at least water and oil pressure. Then I would invest in new pos battery cables and wires, and new grounds. Depending on what you spend on guages and what not, I would then put the remaining towards a new radiator and possibly an e-fan.
