IMHO, the loud N/As count as rice - its so loud compared to how quick it is. So in my own definition, I'm a ricer .

I've got a custom system that costed me 450 total. but it was custom. i've got an apex-i turbo app universal exhaust with racing beat header and RB presilencer, which still needs to go in.

I have recently installed RB RoadRace Exhaust & a K&N intake cost plus hangers & gaskets was about $1500. Save up your money. do it once & do it right. My cans just look awesome. makes the rest of the car look bad. Sound is really quiet at normal revs & opens up in tone very nicely. Even throws flames if you really get on it in a upshift. I know it's expensive, but U really get what U pay for. Ifelt bad putting such a gorgeous thing under the car. My car's been through 3 other exhaust incarnations. The RR was the best by far. Power seemed to increase between 5-7K rpms - right in the nice power band. Istill get a nice thrill just seeing the car with those gorgeous cans hangin' down the back. Hope this helps. I had gone the cheapo route B4 with just a header & a cheater-catalyser to old midas cans. It smoked like hell & sounded absolutley abnoxious - my buddies all gave me a bad time about hearing me 2 miles away. Now everything is perfect.

You must also tak into account the increase in weight. Maybe it'll make 1 or 2 more rwhp than a header/testpipe/single exit exhaust, but the single exit will be a LOT lighter. Lighter = faster too, it's not always about power.
Plus some people believe on stock ports the true duals is too much and actually doesn't help as a collected header will.
Does anyone even have dyno results of true dual versus a collected header? I'm even sure if it's been proven or disproven either way yet, but I could be wrong.

Well the best exhuast, I would say true dual setup. Wider powerband then collected and seemed to have a BIG power difference over stock.. And for you folks in cali.. your just in luck.. I'm selling it to help fund my rx-2 13bt project!! Currently at $499!! So this is your time to save if your in the market. Has a sound clip so you get an idea of sound level and tone.

I don't believe anyone has, which is why it's all talk. True duals MIGHT, read possibly not guaranteed, give a few more hp than a collected header to dual or single catback, but it is heavier so you have to take that into consideration too.
I really don't believe there's any proof out there yet, and honestly the best exhaust that will provide the most power would be one with a custom made header that is proper for that particular engine/porting, and then the proper sized piping in the catback. But that'd be a lot more expensive obviously.
