NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!
Skill is very important. BUT the LSD makes or breaks a drift car. If you cant put down how ever much power you make you will not slide. One wheel will spin, right!
The viscous responds way too slow. You will reach the driftablity of the viscous quickly. When you get better and start bombing turns at 60+, which isnt really that fast on a track, you will NEED a lsd which is predictable and quick to respond.
Well the viscous is much better than nothing, but he is asking specifically about better lsds.
Please guys watch videos and talk to real drifters before you buy a lsd. Pretty much anyone with skill will recomend a 2 way. Power on power off, the 2 way will lock. Making it really predictable. Drift is alot of throttle control.
Im not commenting anymore about this. If you disagree than you disagree.
hope I could help somewhat.

Alright guys stop arguing... Just take it easy...

Everyone always says practice means everything... and they are right, but have you ever practiced in a drift prepared car??? It does make the world of difference. We will be posting videos of our drift event from yesterday, and in there, you can see me drifting my brothers 240 with sr, no power steering, no suspension, and no LSD!!! still linked all 5 turns in a row without loosing the drift. But the control that you have with a 2way diff is so much better... Also on our site you can see the maroon 240 he only runs a dohc ka, but he has a ATS 2way and his car just hangs out and stays out. I ordered a 16 disc ATS 2 way diff for my car just recently, hopefully ill have it in by next week. But my experience driving the maroon 240, i know i will be more than happy with the product.

ATS specifically makes a drift style diff for our cars, unlike KAAZ.

www.dgtrials.com your American ATS Diff supplier!!!

Ohh yeah, i forgot to mention that the ATS diff's will be delivered to your door in less than a week via airmail from Japan, and the shipping is free unlike most places that charge 100-200 for airmail from japan. DGTA is directly linked to ATS, and also offers good discounts off MSRP.

With regards to FWD drift, it depends on what you consider drifting. FWD cars CAN drift, but not the way you see it done on G4. Drifting in the purest form is about sliding the back of your car around to clear corners faster and at a higher speed than grip driving. The drift events on television are about making smoke and selling tires. So for a true, effective drift in an FWD, all you have to do is overinflate your backtires until you take the give out, then when you enter a hard turn drop the gas then stomp it flat, and grab the e-brake, but you've got to enter the hard turn fast because you're essentially using inertia and a lack of grip on the back tires to swing the back end around. If you've got a hard spring setting and stiff struts back there, you can do it pretty easy without the e-brake. If you don't believe me, go to your local SCCA Solo II event some weekend as a spectator, and talk to one of the guys that brings his Honda Civic in on a trailer.
You can also drift in an open diff car, but it doesn't act nearly as consistent as one with an LSD. And what I've found is that you can drift pretty easy one direction, and not so well the other.

It made me do a double-take too, but I think he means that he has 4 clutch-type differentials, but all 3 TYPES of differentials (clutch, viscous, and torsen) don't engage well (and he probably means disengage).
Just guessing though.
