Best Downpipe/Mid Pipe (Poll)
Simple poll... my cats clogged and gutted long before I bought the car because the PO blocked off the hose from the air pump to the AFM... (WTF... I don't know) so now I am finally going to buy a downpipe/midpipe combo. The cat back is currently stock to the best of my knowledge. I'll replace it soon but I am not excited about the hollowed cats on the car so... which do you recommend?

looks unanimous
the people have spoken (a few people anyway) and it looks like racing beat is the way to go.
thats why i've decided to order the thunderfabrications pipe.
:-)
I know I know... why the poll if I'm going against it? Well, at least now I know where the quality is for sure, and what works.
Now I want to give other companies a chance to prove their quality. Thunderfabrications.com offers a 3" mandrel bent dp/mp single piece unit for $175 shipped. The price can't be beat. The downfall is I don't have the option to add on a presilencer or catalytic converter later. I shouldn't have to as there are no emissions here and cars older than 1990 are not required to have cats by law. So I'm giving the small shop a chance and I'll keep you posted. Thanks for posting your opinions, I do value them even if I'm not going with them.

RB downpipe and presliencer are hard to get right now. Mazdatrix are on back order for over a month. Racing Beat said they were getting a shipment in but that was 2 fridays ago. I checked today, they haven't shipped them out yet. Anyone know where I can get one? Thanks

Sure you do have some choices. If you live near a shop that will do custom work, you could get them to hack the Thunderfab into 2 pieces and add flanges. The part cut out could match a length of a cheap cat (for passing emissions or inspection). Simple and cheap.

$175 beats it... I don't think the quality would be 100% better. I haven't seen the TF pipes up close and personal but they are mandel bent, have thick flanges and a sotck o2 sensor mount.
Locally there isn't much for shops that will do custom work and NO shops that can do mandrel bending so I don't see the custom setup happening.
It's possible I find a shop to cut the TF downpipe and weld a flange to it if I need to put a cat on... but having a shop make a complete setup around here isn't going to happen.
I've gone into a couple of hardware stores looking for the parts to make the 3" TID mod. Can't find anything... 2.5" to 3" rubber hose doesn't exist locally. I'm going to have to order something. Frustrating.

Hmmm... you guys put up a hard argument for RB. I'm really glad to know they make some quality goods. I'm still gonna go with TF and hope for the best. It's about $110 difference in price Canadian... and the money isn't really an issue. I want to know who else makes quality parts and help support them. If they suck you'll hear about it and if it rocks... you'll also hear about it.
I hope this poll keeps going for a while. I find this very useful information.

Super Newbie
I was going to buy an RX7Fashion one first. Then the guy was being bitchy and saying he could only do it if I got a group buy going. So I looked at the TF one. I'd never heard of them before, so I just went ahead and got the RB one, since almost all of my FB is running RB stuff, and I know they make good ****.

The votes speak for themselves. I have a 3" RB downpipe and a High flow cat. The pipe is amazing construction quality, and even has an extra plug in it, which Ill be putting a EGT probe in. My only grip is mine isnt SS, but I had it Jet-Hot Coated grey, so it looks alright. Maybe ill get a SS RB pipe at a later point in time.
The DP came on my car, and I wouldnt want to know what it was like without it.
