best cheap/adjustable seat swap?
so i have black leather seats in my 91 gxl, and the passengers one is in pretty good shape, but the drivers side is all torn up.
i want to replace the seats with something comfy, adjustable, not red or pink or polka dot, and with good lumbar. don't care about the material too much, just want them to be dark, the darker the better. also they have to have good lumbar support.
i like the feel of the stock seats and don't really have any complaints except for the lack of lumbar support. i could totally fab up some brackets to fit seats to the stock rails, i don't expect many options to bolt right in.
so basically, should i hold my breath for a stock black leather replacement that's in good shape for a reasonable price? or is that extremely unlikely to happen and i should just swap in different ones? and if so, what seats should i look at?

You should be able, if I`m not mistaken, to use most any bucket seats. Just take the tracks from yours and swap them to the different ones. Might need to drill a couple new holes to get`em to fit but I don`t see where it`s impossible...

its way more involved then this, custom seat brackets would be required.
why not consider buying skins and recovering your seat?

and i actually just went outside and took the seat cover off to take a look at them again, and found the lumbar adjustment. i take back my previous comment about lumbar support.

I believe they're made by Recaro (not that it matters) and have the best lumbar support of any non-adjustable seat. The seat cushion is also excellent...good for extended trips without fatigue.
This pics color is deceiving...they are actually black with a very dark grey/red pinstripe insert.
I put a set in my 240Z and liked them so much that I got another set for my RX (which, being a red exterior with black interior, matched the seats perfectly...they looked stock).

If you're looking to re-cover the stock seats, here's an example off eBay:

+1 for this idea, unless you want to reupholster yours.
I know Bride also makes aftermarket seat rails specifically for the FC to allow you to bolt in a lot of different Bride racing seats. You may want to just leave the passenger side as some sort of stock seat though. The angled bolt hole for the passenger rail near the tranny tunnel makes fabbing a custom rail somewhat challenging.

RXVERT Always in progress
No matter what you do your gonna have to spend a little money for this, Most seats are cheap to get at most wrecking yards, it's the condition of the seats, that determine how much more you'll end up spending, on ulphostry, the pain is finding the rails that will work , adjustability for head clearence and back and forth adjustment for your legs, and steering, I had to have a friend custom modify my brackets. Some aftermarket seats do have rails that are made for the fc's.. They do sell aftermarket seatcovers for the 2nd gens, Some people just end up uplostering there old seats. here's some picts:

I would agree that a nice set of used seats look better then most re-skins.
Wedge makes brackets for almost all the seat companies, brackets are about $100 each and they can make them to your specs

Hands down, the nicest, most easily available seats I've ever sat in come from a Honda CRX.
I believe they're made by Recaro (not that it matters) and have the best lumbar support of any non-adjustable seat. The seat cushion is also excellent...good for extended trips without fatigue.

Recaro makes great seats.
I agree with your statement regarding the comfort of those CRX seats. I also got a set of Recaro's from an Integra type R-awesome seats for a project with my son (yes, the Type R seats went into the CRX. *Kids*). I had a *great* set of OEM seats in a 1980 VW Scirocco. They were Recaro as well.
But I digress- Are you saying you have installed a set in your FC or you have a set to be installed?

Because I was lazy and had other, more pressing, projects to complete, I never properly mounted them.
I made brackets- sans sliders- and just bolted them to the stock mount points.
They were perfect, I made several long distance jaunts and was supremely comfortable.
Later I was offered a nearly new set of Corbeaus (exchange for some labor) and sold the Honda seats at a profit.
The Corbeaus look great (if you're into that sort of thing) and because they have a totally flat bottom, were easier to mount with sliders.
They are not nearly as comfortable though and I sometimes rue my decision.

damn i just found the knee height adjustment yesterday. i LOVE seats that have that. i like putting the knees up high and sitting a little closer than you would otherwise.
i'm so torn now. i now love all the features of the stock seats, but the car corners so insanely hard that i feel like i'm sliding around too much and makes me want racing seats.
are racing seats annoying with stock seatbelts? i'm probably eventually going to swap over some manual belts. my auto ones are broken and i still hate auto belts even when they do work.
